Hello,

The February Unix Users meeting topic is "Computationally Intensive
Computing". The speaker will be Phil Long, Information Services and
Technology Senior Strategist with the Academic Computing Practice.

A report on the topic was published in early 2003 and is posted at the
following URL:

http://web.mit.edu/is/discovery/intensive/

Click on "report" for the full content of the report.

The purpose of this project was to investigate the demand for
high-performance, parallel processing computing services, and what the
role of MIT Information Systems (now Information Services and Technology)
should be in providing such services. The needs of the academic community
and the research community were considered, both for primary computation
and for post-processing (such as computationally intensive visualization).

The presentation will allow plenty of time for questions and comments from
attendees. If you have any experience regarding computing clusters that
you wish to share, your comments will be welcome.

What: Unix Users Meeting
