<h4>Sue Denham: Leonardo Editorial Board</h4>
<p class="mainText"><em>Leonardo</em> is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor <strong>Sue Denham</strong> to the <strong><em>Leonardo</em> Journal Editorial Board</strong>. Denham, director of the Cognition Institute and coordinator of CogNovo, is an expert in neural and cognitive models of perception, especially multi-stability in auditory perceptual organization. CogNovo is an innovative doctoral program funded by the EU Marie Curie Initiative and Plymouth University to foster research training in the emerging field of Cognitive Innovation. CogNovo offers transdisciplinary training that combines scientific studies of the neural correlates and mechanisms of creativity with investigations into the role of creativity in human cognition and applications in sustainable technological and social innovation. <a href="http://www.cognovo.eu/news/" target="_blank">Find out more</a></p>

<h3>Opportunities and Community Announcements</h3>
<h4>CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: COGNOVO</h4>
<p class="mainText">CogNovo is now accepting applications for 14 Marie Curie funded research fellowships. CogNovo is a multi-national doctoral training network that offers research training in Cognitive Innovation, both as a new field of scientific investigation and as a strategy for research and innovation. Research Fellows will explore creativity, cognition and innovation from an interdisciplinary perspective, with projects combining disciplines such as experimental psychology with cognitive robotics, or computational modeling with the creative arts. A strong humanities theme will also inform both training and research across the network, ensuring that CogNovo Fellows graduate as highly skilled researchers and critical, innovative thinkers. Individual projects range from studying mental imagery, to creating distributed musical instruments, understanding medical decision making and developing creativity and curiosity in humanoid robots. <a href="http://www.cognovo.eu/about/apply.php" target="_blank">Find out more</a></p>
<h4>GENSPACE: THE MACHINE BODY</h4>
<p class="mainText">Genspace, New York City’s Community Biolab, will be hosting <em>The Machine Body</em>, a talk by bio-artist duo Revital Cohen and Tuur Van Balen on Monday, 19 August 2013. Cohen and Van Balen run a London-based experimental practice that produces objects, photographs, performances and videos exploring the tensions between biology and technology. Inspired by designer species, composed wilderness and mechanical organs, they set out to create posthuman bodies, bespoke metabolisms, unnatural animals and poetic machines. <h4>2013 ARS ELECTRONICA FESTIVAL</h4>
<p class="mainText">The centerpiece of this year’s Ars Electronica conference program is the Total Recall Symposium. One of science’s most coveted secrets and humankind’s greatest technological challenges will be the focal point of the next Ars Electronica Festival 5–9 September 2013: memory and its storage. What is remembrance? How is information saved to memory and how is it lost—in nature, in technology, in the future? Total Recall features neuroscientists, computer engineers, artists and philosophers who will discuss their approaches, their latest findings and their interpretations, their plans and visions of a future in which we’ll be able to save everything to memory. <h4>EVOLUTIONARY ART BY WILLIAM LATHAM</h4>
<p class="mainText">Mutator 1 + 2 is Latham’s first major exhibition in the U.K. in over 20 years. The exhibition will run from 7 September to 13 October 3013 at the Phoenix Brighton gallery and feature early hand-drawn work, large computer-generated Cibachrome prints, video art and Latham’s most recent interactive projected imagery. Sue Gollifer, curator of ACM SIGGRAPH international computer graphics, ArCade 1-V11, and director of ISEA International Headquarters brings over three decades’ worth of Latham’s creative work to Phoenix Brighton as part of the 2013 Brighton Digital Festival. <a href="http://www.phoenixbrighton.org/exhibitions/william-latham-mutator-1-2/" target="_blank">Find out more</a></p>
