<h4>FIRST L.A. LASER: 7 March 2013</h4>

The topic for this meeting is <strong>Biotech + Art</strong>. Everyone invited will introduce their work in 3 minute pecha-kucha style presentation. This will be followed by drinks and food + socializing and making new connections. This event is FREE and open to the public. <p class="mainText"><img src="http://www.leonardo.info/images/ArtsHumanities-2013_130-border.jpg" align="left" border="0">The deadline for submissions to the <strong>Arts, Humanities, and Complex Networks Symposium</strong> (Leonardo Satellite Symposium at NetSci2013) is coming soon! <strong>Submit your 300 word abstract by 31 March 2013</strong> - for submission instructions, visit <a href="http://artshumanities.netsci2013.net/">http://artshumanities.netsci2013.net/</a>. The overall mission of the symposium is to bring together pioneer work in the overlap of arts, humanities, network research, data science, and information design. NetSci2013 and the Arts, Humanities and Complex Networks Symposium will take place on 4 June 2013 at Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in Copenhagen. Mingle with leading researchers in complex network science, potentially sparking fruitful collaborations, while presenting and learning about the diversity of research contributions around networks in culture, networks in art, networks in the humanities, art about networks, and research in network visualization. <h4>FREE LEONARDO ARTICLE!</h4>
<p class="mainText"><img src="http://www.leonardo.info/images/hybrid-reassemblagex160-border.jpg" align="left" border="0">Download <strong>"Hybrid Reassemblage: An Exploration of Craft, Digital Fabrication and Artifact Uniqueness,"</strong> by Amit Zoran and Leah Buechley, as a FREE PDF from the MIT Press Journals website. In the article the authors discuss digital fabrication, and especially 3D printing, as an emerging field that is opening up new possibilities for craft, art and design. The process, however, has important limitations; in particular, digitally designed artifacts are intrinsically reproducible. In stark contrast, traditional craft artifacts are individually produced by hand. The authors combine digital fabrication and craft in their work involving object destruction and restoration: an intentionally broken crafted artifact and a 3D printed restoration. The motivation is not to restore the original work but to transform it into a new object in which both the destructive event and the restoration are visible and the re-assembled object functions as a memorial. <a href="http://www.mitpressjournals.org/doi/pdf/10.1162/LEON_a_00477">Read the article</a></p>

Such panoramas were immersive but static. There were other panoramas that moved—hundreds, and probably thousands of them. Their history has been largely forgotten.
