LEA Digital Media Exhibition: In Darwin's Garden

Leonardo Electronic Almanac presents "In Darwin's Garden," a site-specific, web-based installation by Chris Meigh-Andrews on the grounds of Down House – the family home of naturalist Charles Darwin – in Kent, England. This project takes as its focus an old mulberry tree growing at the back of the house, which serves to represent the relationship between the domestic life of the Darwin Family, the garden as a site for Charles Darwin’s careful and systematic observation of natural processes that he drew on in developing his theory of Natural Selection, and the slow but inevitable change in the cycle of life and the seasons. Find out more

CALL FOR PAPERS: LMJ23: Sound Art (2013)

Art is getting noisier every day. Whether made by sculptors, video artists,
composers, printmakers or installation artists, there’s no question but that “Sound
Art” is a genre ascendant. The Turner Prize went to a Sound Artist last year,
phonography has revived an interest in R. Murray Schafer’s Soundscape
theories, and critical writing is beginning to proliferate on the topic. It’s time for
Leonardo Music Journal to give this field a closer look. For Volume 23 of LMJ we solicit articles and artists' statements that address the role of sound in art that wouldn’t necessarily be called "music." The deadline for proposals is 15 October 2012. Find out more

VAST2012: The 12th International Symposium on Virtual Reality, Archaeology and Cultural Heritage

Digital technology has the potential to influence every aspect of the
cultural heritage environment. Archaeologists and cultural heritage
scientists as well as Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
experts have in the past collaborated to find solutions to optimize
all aspects of capturing, managing, analyzing and delivering cultural
information, but many unsolved problems remain. VAST 2012 will provide an opportunity for
the heritage and ICT communities to understand these challenges and
shape the future of ICT and heritage research. We are seeking contributions that advance the state of the art in the
information technologies available to support cultural heritage. Find out more
