<h4>LEA CALL FOR PAPERS: Astronomy, Lunacies and Ends of the World</h4>
<p class="mainText">Are the contemporary lunacies and conspiracy theories on the end of the world in 2012 just another cultural fad similar to the end of the world in the year 2000 or in the year 1000? Is the world really destined to end or does the Mayan calendar’s prediction represent another excuse to develop myths and illusions? Proposals are invited from artists and scientists that work on issues related to astronomy, mythologies, social behaviors, conspiracy theories inspired by astronomy as well as eschatological interpretations of historical and contemporary times. Interdisciplinary proposals that merge astronomical science and psychology, popular culture, sociology, mass media or philosophical analyses are particularly welcome. <h4>Leonardo Abstracts Service Upcoming Deadline: 30 June 2012</h4>
<p class="mainText">As we near the end of the academic year, we want to bring the <strong>Leonardo Abstract Service (LABS)</strong> to the attention of students and educators. Students who will be getting an M.A., M.F.A. or Ph.D. in a subject related to the intersection of art, science and technology are encouraged to submit an abstract of their thesis to the LABS database. The LABS database, which has been in existence for over 10 years, functions as a way for international artists and scholars to learn about the work of the next generation. The database is peer-reviewed, and the top-ranking authors are invited to publish their abstracts in Leonardo and Leonardo Electronic Almanac (LEA).
