Leonardo Abstracts Service (LABS), consisting of the English-language, Spanish-language, Chinese-language and French-language databases, is a comprehensive collection of Ph.D., Masters and MFA thesis abstracts on topics in the intersection between art, science and technology. Individuals receiving advanced degrees in the arts (visual, sound, performance, text), computer sciences, the sciences and/or technology that in some way investigate philosophical, historical or critical applications of science or technology to the arts are invited to submit abstracts of their theses for consideration. The French language database, under the direction of Annick Bureaud, was introduced in January 2009. Colloquium organized by MIM and in partnership with
LEONARDO/Olats, Alphabetville and ZINC-ECM, Marseille, France, Oct 22-24 2009. Since its publication, Darwin's "The Origin of Species" has
been widely debated in its cultural context. In this
colloquium we wish to re-examine cultural activity and the
arts in the context of the Theory of Evolution as it is
understood today. We solicit proposed papers from
scientists, artists and composers, scholars in the

The UC Santa Cruz Digital Arts and New Media (DANM) MFA Program is a
center for the development and study of digital media and the cultures
they help create. This intensive two-year MFA program brings together
faculty and students from across the academic spectrum to study and
create interdisciplinary artistic and scholarly research. Students
take core and elective courses in the practice and theory of digital
media arts, and participate in collaborative research in one of four
areas: Mechatronics, Participatory Culture, Performative
Technologies, or Playable Media. The DANM journey culminates in the
development of an individual or collaborative thesis project,
premiered in our annual MFA exhibition. The MFA in Digital Arts and
New Media qualifies graduates for a variety of art-related careers
including university-level teaching and research. Leonardo/ISAST welcome UC Santa Cruz Digital Arts and New Media Program as a new Affiliate Member.

The UCLA Art | Sci Center + Lab (a Leonardo Affiliate Member) and the University of California Digital Arts Research Network (UCDARnet) proudly announces the Sound + Science Symposium, a two-day event bringing together leading figures from a variety of disciplines to discuss scientific research and technological breakthroughs concerned with sound and their applications and implications in relation to questions of culture, politics, history, environment, art and music. The Sound + Science Symposium will take place Thursday, March 5 and Friday, March 6, at UCLA's California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) Auditorium and will include presentations, film screenings, discussions, and social gatherings.
