FRANK MALINA'S 100TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
On 30 June 2012 Roger Malina will be hosting a party in Paris, France, to kick off the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of his father, Leonardo founder Frank Malina. If you are in Paris and would like to be invited, contact Roger Malina at rmalina at alum.mit.edu for details.

IN MEMORIAM: LEONARDO HONORARY EDITOR RAY BRADBURY
Leonardo Honorary Editor Ray Bradbury passed away 5 June 2012. Bradbury was a long-time Leonardo editorial board member. He had been a friend and colleague of Leonardo Journal founding editor Frank Malina. Their connection was an interest in space travel, which began to develop in the 1920s and 1930s as its reality was also being explored by science fiction writers. Writers such as Jules Verne, Leonardo Advisor Arthur C. Clarke, and Ray Bradbury were exemplars of the shared intellectual roots in a cultural imaginary that developed symbiotically between the arts, sciences and engineering. In some cases writers such as Bradbury anticipated future developments, in other cases warned of possible dystopias. Find out more

LEONARDO SATELLITE SYMPOSIUM AT NETSCI 2012
Registration is now open for Arts, Humanities, and Complex Networks – 3rd Leonardo satellite symposium at NetSci2012, which will take place on Tuesday, 19 June 2012, at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, near Chicago, IL, on the shores of Lake Michigan. Featured keynote speakers are: Burak Arikan (NYC/Istanbul), Pedro Cano (bmat.com), and Miriah Meyer (Utah). Tickets are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and may sell out quickly. LEONARDO/OLATS – IMÉRA WORKSHOP: WATER IS IN THE AIR
In the framework of the European project StudioLab, Leonardo/Olats, in collaboration with IMéRA, is organizing a two-day workshop on the theme "Water is in the Air," 25 - 26 June 2012 in Marseille, France. Missing or flooding, pure or polluted, water is at the core of many economical, social and political issues as well as cultural and symbolic ones. Water is a familiar component; however, numerous things remain unknown regarding its nature, its structure, how it changes state, its presence in the universe. Scientists and artists are challenging and exploring these issues, which will be focused on in the Water is in the Air workshop. Find out more

Join us for the next DC Art Science Evening Rendezvous (DASER), 28 June 2012, at Keck Center, Washington DC. This month, the discussion focuses on two dimensional representation in the sciences. Feature presentations will include Eva Ahren, research fellow at NIH; James Prosek, artist; Jeff Siewerdsen, professor; and Kaitlin Yarnall, Deputy Creative Director, National Geographic Magazine. Leonardo Education and Art Forum seeks panelists for the forthcoming panel: Re/Search: Art, Science, and Information Technology (ASIT): What Would Leonardo da Vinci Have Thought? Art/science/technology project production is very expensive. When Leonardo Da Vinci introduced himself to the Duke of Milan he did not say he was a fantastic artist -- he said he could help the Duke by developing weapons to protect his city in times of siege. What entrepreneurial activities/businesses/ideas have contemporary artists developed to provide revenue streams to fund their projects? July 31 deadline. Find out more

LEA CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
SCANZ 2013: 3RD NATURE – HUI AND SYMPOSIUM
SCANZ 2013: 3rd nature, the biannual art, technology, culture and ecology event (1-3 Feb 2013, New Plymouth, New Zealand) will bring together diverse people to discuss and celebrate how to approach working together across culture, discipline and media. We must work together to resolve the issues emerging at the boundary between fresh knowledge and deep knowledge, beginning with sharing knowledge and projects. Presentations and projects which highlight cross-cultural interchange and/or computing and electronics projects are sought. The ensuing discussion and presentations will then be shared in a special edition of Leonardo Electronic Almanac. Abstracts are due 15 June 2012. Find out more

OPEN CALL FOR PHD CANDIDATES FROM THE I-NODE OF PLANETARY COLLEGIUM
Open call for PhD candidates from the I-Node of Planetary Collegium in the inter-disciplinary field of art, science and technology. The PhD program is placed at the Ionion Center for the Arts and Culture (ICAC), on the island of Kefalonia, Greece, and is running under a memorandum of agreement between ICAC and the University of Plymouth, UK. The PhD program is the well-known Planetary Collegium program and leads to the degree of doctorate from the University of Plymouth. Find out more

ISEA 2012: MACHINE WILDERNESS
Registration is now open for the Eighteenth International Symposium on Electronic Art, ISEA2012 Albuquerque: Machine Wilderness, Re-envisioning Art, Technology and Nature. ISEA2012 Albuquerque: Machine Wilderness is a symposium and series of events exploring the discourse of global proportions on the subject of art, technology and nature. The symposium will consist of a conference 19 – 24 September 2012 based in Albuquerque with outreach days along the state's "Cultural Corridor" in Santa Fe and Taos, and an expansive, regional collaboration throughout the fall of 2012, including art exhibitions, public events, performances and educational activities. This project brings together a wealth of leading creative minds from around the globe and engages the local community through in-depth partnerships. Find out more
