It is addressed to the Most Holy Theotokos or a Saint whose intercessions are sought through the chanting of supplicatory prayers and other hymns. The most popular Supplication Service is that in which the prayers and hymns are addressed to the Most Holy Mother of God for a special intention.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify"><SPAN style="COLOR: windowtext; FONT-FAMILY: Arial"><FONT size=3>The Supplicatory Hymns to the Most Holy Theotokos was authored by Theosterictus the Monk (9<SUP>th</SUP> century), and prayed in <st1:place w:st="on">Constantinople</st1:place> during times of invasion, siege<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>and civil strife.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>It has been prayed since then as a comfort during times of civil unrest. <o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
