An effort is being organized to send a team of medical experts in acute and
chronic massive burn injuries to assist doctors at the American University
Hospital (AUH) and other hospitals in treating those with extensive
total-body burns. Another effort is underway to evacuate as many
victims as possible to hospitals in the Boston
area. The AUH Burns Unit is not equipped to handle the 150+
victims with severe burn injuries. Most cannot survive a medical
evacuation flight, whether financial resources are available or not, and may
die unless help is on the way. Stay tuned for
more info.

WHAT: Peaceful Demonstration to Express Outrage at the
Assassination of Former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and Call to End
Syrian Occupation in Lebanon

WHERE: Syrian Embassy, 2215 Wyoming Ave NW, Washington,
D.C.

WHY: Several Lebanese American organizations and
individuals-both Christians and Muslims-have joined forces to express outrage at
the recent assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in Beirut and
call to end Syrian occupation in Lebanon. Representatives from several
organizations are participating in the demonstration including the Lebanese
American Council for Democracy (LACD), the American Lebanese Coalition (ALC),
the National Aliance of Lebanese Americans (NALA), the Lebanese Information
Center (LIC), the Lebanese Forces, the National Liberal Party (Al-Ahrar),
Progressive Socialist Party (Al Hizb al Taqaddoumi al Ishtiraaki), Free
Patriotic Movement (Al Tayyar), and the Lebanese Phalanges/Kataeb Reformist
Movement. Several Lebanese supporters from the Washington, D.C., metropolitan
area are also participating. The collaboration among these groups and individual
supporters marks a historic moment for Lebanese Americans. The
demonstration
is open to any supporter regardless of nationality; organizers invite anyone in
support of ending Syrian occupation to attend the demonstration.
Organizers intend for the demonstration to impact immediate implementation of
United Nations Resolution 1559 and rally support for U.S. action to exert
pressure on Syria to withdraw its forces from Lebanon.
