premiere of Evan Ziporyn's The Ornate Zither and the Nomad Flute with
Anne Harley, soprano; text by Li Shangyin and W.S. Merwin; Vaughn
Williams, English Folk Song Suite; Ives, Fugue in C; and Mennin, Canzona.

The Canadian soprano<b> Anne Harley</b>, a graduate of Yale University,
received her Master's Degree in voice from Boston University as well as
the Certificate in Opera Performance from Boston University's esteemed
Opera Institute. She has since performed throughout Canada, the USA and
England, specializing in both contemporary and early music. Describing a
recent performance premiering Three Songs for Antigone by Marjorie
Merryman, The Boston Globe described Ms. Harley's voice as "glinting
like a scimitar and floating like spindrift, "while praising her as
a "compelling advocate for this repertoire. Her recording of works
by women composers of the French Baroque with the Boston-based La Donna
Musicale was a finalist in the Early Music America/Dorian Recordings
national competition. She has appeared at the Banff Centre for the Arts,
the Tanglewood Institute and at the Dartington International Summer
School. She has collaborated with Schola Cantorum of Boston and
Concertino Armonico and the Boston Bach Ensemble. In addition she has
broadcast and recorded as soloist with the choirs of Trinity Church and
Marsh Chapel.<br><br>
From Lincoln Center to Balinese temples, from<br>
loft spaces to international festivals, composer/performer<b> Evan
Ziporyn</b> has traveled the globe in search of new musical
possibilities. His compositions have been performed by the Kronos
Quartet, Bang On A Can, Nederlands Blazer Ensemble, master p'ipaist Wu
Man, Gamelan Sekar Jaya, Maya Beiser and Steven Schick, Arden Trio,
California EAR Unit, pianist Sarah Cahill, and Orkest de
Volharding. He has been associated with the Bang On A Can Festival
since its founding in 1987, appearing as composer, soloist, and ensemble
leader. Ziporyn is Kenan Sahin Distinguished Professor of Music at
MIT.</blockquote><br>
