face="Times New Roman" size=3>LEDC is seeking an individual with strong
initiative, keen business acumen, and the ability to interact with a wide array
of clients with varying levels of business sophistication to serve as a
micro-finance specialist. The individual would be responsible for consultations
with loan clients, tracking client leads, assessing client financial situation,
and business/financial analysis. The intern would also be involved in “capacity
building” for the micro-finance department, where the intern would take the lead
in building infrastructure within the department to help the program grow. An
example of this would be overseeing the introduction of a new software module
for tracking financials, building of an online client portfolio, etc. The level
of responsibility and content for this internship would depend on the ability
and initiative of the individual. While not specifically required, the ideal
candidate would have solid Spanish language skills. <BR><BR>LEDC <BR>The Latino
Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) is a non-profit organization founded in
1991 in Washington D.C. LEDC’s mission is to improve the wealth-building
capacity of low- and moderate-income Latinos and other underserved communities
in the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:State
w:st="on">Washington</st1:State></st1:place> area. LEDC accomplishes this
mission by increasing the number and strength of small businesses, increasing
home ownership, preserving affordable housing and preventing tenant
displacement. As part of its small business work, LEDC helps Washington-area
entrepreneurs gain access to credit by providing micro-loans to those
individuals unable to get financing from banks to start their businesses. These
individuals often include recent immigrants, minorities, lower-income, and small
business start-ups that traditionally have limited access to capital: these
individuals comprise LEDC’s target market. Apart from micro-credit, LEDC
provides extensive training, consulting, and advocacy for existing and aspiring
entrepreneurs across the city. <BR><BR><BR>Internship Details: Unfortunately, we
cannot offer compensation as a part of these internships. On the plus side, the
LEDC offices are in the heart of the most vibrant nightlife scene in <st1:place
w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Washington</st1:City> <st1:State
w:st="on">D.C.</st1:State></st1:place>: Adams Morgan. Tons of restaurants,
shops, parks, and the subway are within minutes of our doors, making it a fun
