We've been out of town a couple of times, driving, and enjoyed both trips. Joe's writing, riding his bike, going to the gym, putting back on the weight he lost, feeling fine. Everything's been almost normal, thank goodness. Today, though, he has to have a test that has us a bit worried. Here's what he wrote on his online diary http://webnews.sff.net/read?cmd=read&group=sff.people.joe- haldeman&artnum=16120 last night: "I may be out of touch for a bit. At midnight I have to stop taking food and water for the next 15 hours, and then go under for gastrointestinal endoscopy. Optical fiber tube down the throat, through the stomach, and into the pancreas. Look around and see whether a stent is needed; if so, put it in. (I think between the two lobes of the organ.) If all goes well it will be an outpatient procedure, though I'll be pretty dopey after it. Doc says only 5% cause trouble, usually pancreatitis. With which I'm all too familiar. Joe" I'll report after the procedure. Love, Gay -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... He's still dopey and uncoordinated, but we're home. There was no need for a stent and everything looks pretty good in there. Half of his pancreas doesn't show up on the scans, apparently; probably due to the pancreatitis but possibly congenital. As long as he continues to feel well and do well, nothing further is planned except another CT scan to check for pockets of fluid in his abdomen. Thanks so much for all the good wishes! Love, Gay
