DUSP students have launched a campaign, in support of a national campaign, to rethink dining at MIT through real consideration of issues of social sustainability and justice. We need campus wide support. <br>
Aramark is a profiteer of the prison industrial complex, serving over 380 million meals at more than 500 prisons and jails. The company has been the subject of human rights complaints about maggots and rotten food, foot shortages, sexual harassment, drug trafficking and labor exploitation in jails and prisons around the country. National activists have called for an Aramark boycott.<br>
Aramark also has the 2nd largest dining contract at MIT. A new MIT Dining request for proposals will be put out for the summer, and this is our chance to demand that Aramark-- that profits from prisons and exploits incarcerated people-- is banned from our campus. There is a lot at stake, and now is the time to make our voices heard for more just food options on campus. <br>

The Abdul Latif Jameel World Water and Food Security Lab (J-WAFS) at MIT is pleased to announce the internal call for doctoral student nominations for two new fellowship opportunities: J-WAFS’ Rasikbhai L. Meswani Fellowship for Water Solutions and the J-WAFS Graduate Student Fellowship. Please see attached information document and nomination form for details. Both fellowship programs are managed by J-WAFS, and are open to MIT students from any program or discipline who are conducting solutions-based research in an area related to water and water supply at MIT. <br>
J-WAFS is asking MIT faculty to nominate current PhD students to compete for the 2017-2018 fellowships. Nomination is simultaneous to both programs; J-WAFS will match the successful students to the specific fellowships. Eligible students must be in their second or third year of PhD studies and must have passed their qualifying exams by the application deadline, May 18th, 2017. They also must be in residence at MIT during the fellowship award period. <br>
Fellowship: The selected fellows will be awarded one semester of funding.<br>
Deadline: Complete nomination packets are due by email to J-WAFS no later than 5:00 pm EST on May 18th, 2017.<br>

We’re excited to announce D. E. Shaw Exploration Fellowship 2017, a unique educational opportunity taking place at our New York City headquarters from July 19 to 20. Given that women are underrepresented in the global alternative investment industry, we specifically designed a program in an effort to bring together talented and intellectually curious women enrolled in Ph.D. programs. These women will receive an introduction to our firm, insights into our rigorous approach to finance, and several professional and social networking opportunities. By engaging with a cross section of people at the firm, from recent Ph.D. graduates to senior leaders, these women will learn about the challenging problems on which we work, as well as the transition from academia to finance. Participants will receive a $2,000 stipend, accommodations, and travel to and from New York City.</span></div>
