For the first time in history, women make up half the educated labor force and are earning the majority of advanced degrees. It should be the best time ever for women, and yet... it's not. Storm clouds are gathering, and the worst thing is that most women don't
have a clue what could be coming. In large part this is because the message they're being fed is that they now have it made. But do they?<br>
<br>
In The New Soft War on Women, respected experts on gender issues and the psychology of women Caryl Rivers and Rosalind C. Barnett argue that an insidious war of subtle biases and barriers is being waged that continues to marginalize women. In this eye-opening
presentation, Rivers and Barnett offer women the real facts as well as tools for combating the "soft war" tactics that prevent them from advancing in their careers. With women now central to the economy, determining to a large degree whether it thrives or stagnates,
this is one war no one can afford for them to lose.<br>

Three nights of humor and pathos brought to MIT by students, alumnae, and staff, The Vagina Monologues debuted at the Institute in 2002, making this our 13th annual production. Based on V-Day founder Eve Ensler's Obie award winning play, The Vagina Monologues
explores and celebrates women's sexuality -- its delights, pains, actualities, and vulnerabilities. Through intriguing testimonies from real women all around the world, the show has developed into a wonderful phenomenon that peers into women's fantasies and fears.<br>
<br>
The Vagina Monologues are Friday, February 14 at 8pm; Saturday, February 15 at 8pm; and Sunday, February 16 at 1pm! All performances are in 32-123. Tickets will be sold from 9am-5pm in the Student Center (Monday, February 3rd to Wednesday, February 5th), and
9am-5pm in Stata (Thursday, February 6th to Friday, February 7th, and Monday, February 10th to Friday, February 14th). You can also buy tickets online here or at the door. Tickets are $2 for MIT Affiliates, $3 for everyone else.<br>

Science Saturdays is a weekend program designed to bring fun science activities and demonstrations to libraries throughout Boston. From building electric motors to holding miniature "crime scene" investigations, Science Saturdays accommodates a wide range of
topics through lots of science fun.<br>

Organized in a booth-style, students are welcome to explore any of the activity booths and find out what is most interesting to them. Young scientists are able to discover the wonders of science in an informal setting that is fun and educational!<br>

HGWISE is proud of to host a coffee hour discussion with the Dean of SEAS, Cherry Murray! Previous to her current position, Murray served as principal associate director for science and technology at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory from 2004-2009 and
was president of the American Physical Society (APS) in 2009.<br>
<br>
Before joining Lawrence Livermore, Murray was Senior Vice President of Physical Sciences and Wireless Research after a 27 year long career at Bell Laboratories Research. She served as a member of the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill
and Offshore Drilling and is currently serving on the DOE Secretary of Energy Advisory Board. She received her B.S. in 1973 and her Ph.D. in physics in 1978 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.<br>
