<br>Today, primary scientific literature is read almost exclusively by specialists. The public can only stay abreast of research advances through the filter of the media. This system is broken, as it leaves a communication gap between scientists and the public. This workshop will explore new models for science communication in which writers partner closely with scientists to produce mainstream science coverage. <br>
<br>We invite scientists, writers, and other interested parties to join us for a short presentation followed by workshop discussions with the current leaders of NeuWrite (<a href="http://www.neuwrite.org">www.neuwrite.org</a>), a writing group of research scientists and professional writers based in New York. There will be food. Free and open to the public; advance registration is required. <br>

<br><br><b><u>8. Women in Science and Engineering Computer Science Bootcamp (June 24-25, Register now)<br></u>When:</b> Monday, June 24 – Tuesday, June 25<br><b>Where:</b> Microsoft Research, 1 Cambridge Center, Cambridge<br>

In this two-day boot camp, short tutorials will alternate with hands-on practical exercises. Participants will be encouraged both to help one another, and to apply what they have learned to their own research problems during and between sessions. There will be online follow up sessions for 6 to 8 weeks extending the material from the boot camp.<br>
<br>This boot camp is open to female graduate students, post-docs, faculty members, staff scientists, or their equivalent in science, engineering, medicine, or a related field in academia, industry, or the public and non-profit sectors. Participants should have some prior experience with basic programming.<br>

This July we will be holding Summer Science Week at Lasell College from July 9th - July 12th. Summer Science Week is an opportunity for girls all over the greater Boston area to participate in free STEM programming. <br>
<br>During the day, they work with volunteers who teach STEM curricula, and during the afternoon, the girls go on field trips related to what they've been learning. We are hoping you can volunteers as a Science Teacher in the morning or a Field Trip Chaperone in the afternoon for Summer Science Week. You can volunteer for multiple positions on multiple days, or just one position for one day during the week. If you are interested in volunteering for Summer Science Week, you can complete the application online. Want to know more?
