The Spring Empowerment Conference, started in Spring 2010, seeks to provide resources for and promote discussion of issues relevant to the personal development and life choices of graduate women. <br>

We are looking for a diverse group of individuals who would be willing to be on a poster talking about sexual consent. The photo shoot will be Wednesday, March 13 at 3:00pm. <br>

<br>The Office for the Dean of Graduate Education is pleased to announce Graduate Women of Excellence, an event to honor graduate women who exemplify leadership and outstanding accomplishment. Using this short form, please nominate a graduate woman who meets the following criteria by March 15: <br>
<br>* is a leader among her peers in her example and her actions, <br>* is dedicated to serving the MIT community to improve the graduate student experience, <br>* provides thoughtful and constructive feedback when asked for advice, <br>
* is a catalyst for change when challenges arise.<br><br>A celebration event will be held in late April and posters created by selected nominees detailing their path to MIT will be displayed. <br><br><b><u>6. [WGS] Women Take the Reel Film Festival: "Love and Diane" (Fri. Mar. 15, 7pm)<br></u>When:</b> Friday, March 15, 7pm<br><b>Where:</b> 32-141<br><br>Jennifer Dworkin’s groundbreaking documentary LOVE & DIANE presents a searingly honest and moving examination of poverty, welfare and drug rehabilitation in the United States today. Filmed in New York City over a five-year period, Dworkin documents the struggles of three generations of the Hazzard family as they face a myriad of emotional, financial and personal challenges. <br>
<br>LOVE & DIANE is at its heart a highly charged story about a mother and daughter searching for love, redemption and hope for a new future. While caught in a devastating cycle of teen pregnancy and the bureaucracy of an over burdened welfare system, they demonstrate an inspiring resiliency and ability to find strength during the most desperate times. Without falling into stereotypes of welfare and poverty, LOVE & DIANE casts a fair, non-judgmental eye on the Hazzard’s and presents a forgotten, but very real, side of the American experience. <br>The borders and boundaries where political, ethnic, religious, racial, national, and other factions meet are hotbeds for ideological and psychological tensions that affect marginalized gender and sexual identities. Within these "clash zones," anything from eruptive transformations (revolutions) to gradual modifications (evolutions) might occur. <br>
<br>This interdisciplinary Women's and Gender studies conference will investigate how frictions produced in these "clash zones" impact individual and communal bodies and alter the identity categories by which we define those bodies. Conference is free and open to the public.<br>

<br>Learn the dos and don'ts of working with the Media as an early-stage startup with Jodi-Tatiana Charles, CEO and Brandographer of La Capoise Galerie. The event will include best practices for forming good relationships with on and offline reporters, dealing with PR crisis management, and a mock interview with an experienced business journalist. The panel will conclude with Q & A and open networking.<br>

<br>Despite evidence of their abilities, many people feel like they are an “imposter” and their successes are due to external factors or luck. This "impostor syndrome" often hits students hard in grad school, and can be incredibly isolating. Come join Dr. Barbara Lewis and Dr. Kevin Wehmhoefer for a round table discussion of the impostor syndrome with other graduate students facing the same challenges you have.
