<br>Distinguished panelists:<br><br>Danielle Lauzon, B.A. ‘97 University of Michigan, J.D. 2000 Villanova University School of Law (magna cum laude, Order of the Coif), is a partner in Goodwin Procter LLP’s Technology companies Group. She represents companies in a wide range of industries, including software, hardware, information technology services, clean technology, and life sciences. She provides advice on all aspects of corporate governance and securities law compliance, including start-up and formation matters. Ms. Lauzon also has experience in merger and acquisition transactions and securities offerings. In addition, she has represented companies as well as venture capital and private equity firms in numerous venture capital financings and recapitalizations.<br>
<br>Wendy Verlander SB, SM II ’89, JD 1994 Columbia Law School (3-year Harlan Fiske Stone scholar), is a partner in WilmerHale’s Intellectual Property Department. Ms. Verlander has extensive experience in IP litigation, and is also experienced in arbitration, patent procurement, reexamination proceedings, drafting opinions of counsel, technology transfer and licensing and due diligence investigations for corporate transactions. She works with companies at all stages of development and growth, from start-ups to Fortune 50 companies.<br>
<br>Christine Kuta, SM II ’83, J.D. Suffolk University Law School, is an intellectual property lawyer. Her practice includes intellectual property strategy, portfolio development and management, and patent<br>and trademark prosecution. Ms. Kuta counsels clients in a wide variety of technical areas including computer systems and software applications, telephony and computer networks, medical devices,<br>
lighting systems, materials and manufacturing processes. Ms. Kuta has been in private practice for over ten years. Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Kuta worked in the computer industry for fifteen years, first as a hardware engineer, then as a software engineer, and later as in-house intellectual property counsel.<br>
<br>Moderator: Marta Gross Sc.B. X ’80, J.D. ‘88 Suffolk University School of Law (Evening Division, cum laude) is a partner in Goodwin Procter LLP ’s Litigation Department and a member of its Patent Litigation Practice. For more than 20 years, she has focused her practice on patent matters, including patent litigation, strategic counseling and opinions, and patent-related due diligence. Ms. Gross joined Goodwin Procter as a partner in 2003, and upon joining the firm, Ms. Gross organized and developed the strategic patent counseling practice to support Teva, the world’s largest generic pharmaceutical company. She continues to lead this team which provides validity and infringement advice and opinions, as well as strategic counseling to Teva and others in the life sciences. Ms. Gross worked as an engineer for eight years after her graduation from MIT.<br>
<br><br><b><u>3. [WGS] Women Take the Reel Film Festival: "Orchids" (Fri. Mar. 1, 7pm)<br></u>When:</b> Friday, March 1, 7-9pm<br><b>Where:</b> 6-120<br><br>Gen X filmmaker Phoebe Hart always knew she was different growing up – but she didn’t know why. This award-winning documentary traces Phoebe’s voyage of self-discovery as an intersex person, a group of conditions formerly termed hermaphroditism. Learning only in her teens that she was born with 46XY (male) chromosomes, Hart now seeks to understand her own story and the stories of others affected by this complex and often shameful syndrome. <br>
<br>With help from sister Bonnie (born with the same condition) and support from partner James, Hart drives across Australia, interviewing individuals whose struggles and victories mirror and differ from her own. Some advocate systemic change ending shame and controversial genital surgeries, while others debate coming out or staying closeted with a stigmatized secret. Questioning rigidly defined constructs of gender, sexuality, and normality, often with lively good humor, ORCHIDS is the first film to look at intersex from a positive perspective. Its engaging portrait of survival, courage and reconciliation will speak to a variety of audiences and spark lively discussion about what it means to be perceived as "different."<br>

Menstrual activism is a little known movement to challenge menstrual taboos and call attention to how the evil twins of medicalization and commodification shape our menstrual attitudes and practices.
