<span style>THE HURT LOCKER is a riveting, suspenseful portrait of the courage under fire of the military’s unrecognized heroes: the technicians of a bomb squad who volunteer to challenge the odds and save lives doing one of the world’s most dangerous jobs. Three members of the Army’s elite Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squad battle insurgents and one another as they search for and disarm a wave of roadside bombs on the streets of Baghdad-in order to try and make the city a safer place for Iraqis and Americans alike. Their mission is clear-protect and save-but it’s anything but easy, as the margin of error when defusing a war-zone bomb is zero. This thrilling and heart-pounding look at the psychology of bomb technicians and the effects of risk and danger on the human psyche is a fictional tale inspired by real events by journalists and screenwriter Mark Boal, who was embedded with a special bomb unit in Iraq. During nearly two decades of conflicts between rebels and government forces, an estimated 150,000 Congolese women and girls fell victim to mass rape. That figure continues to rise. WEAPON OF WAR, an award-winning film honored by Amnesty International, journeys to the heart of this crisis, where we meet its perpetrators. In personal interviews, soldiers and former combatants provide openhearted but shocking testimony about rape in the DRC. Despite differing views on causes or criminal status, all reveal how years of conflict, as well as discrimination against women, have normalized brutal sexual violence. We also see former rapists struggling to change their own or others’ behavior, and reintegrate into their communities. 59 minutes.</span></div>

She also founded and leads Meadow Networks, a consulting firm that advises city, state, and federal government agencies about wireless applications in the transportation sector, and impacts on innovation and economic development. Robin is also founder and former CEO of Zipcar, the largest car sharing company in the world. She is on the Board of the World Resources Institute, the US Secretary of Commerce’s National Advisory Committee for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, and the US Department of Transportation’s Intelligent Transportation Systems Program Advisory Committee. She served on the World Economic Forum Future of Transportation Council, the Massachusetts Governor’s Transportation transition team, and the Boston Mayor’s Wireless Task Force.</span></div>

Specifically, I'm interviewing survivors about what services they have used on and off campus, their experiences with those services, recommendations for improvement, and on what it's like to be a survivor of violence or abuse at MIT. The information obtained through the study will be used to improve services at MIT, and measures have been built into the study design to ensure participants' confidentiality.<font color="#222222"><span style="text-align:center"><p style="display:inline!important">

Sara Richardson from the History of Science, Harvard will describe contributions of women scientists throughout history. How does a woman’s unique perspective and different approach change the direction and kinds of advances made in science? Anne Harrington from Harvard University will also be speaking. Other presenters will speak about a woman scientist who personally inspired them.</span><br>
<br><span>Friday 10:00am - 1:00pm</span><br><span>Women Innovators today …</span><br><span>We will hear from women using new technologies and innovations in their careers. Our keynote speaker is Angela Belcher, the W.M. Keck </span><span>Professor of Energy at MIT. Dr. Belcher does innovative research that address many pressing problems we face today…how to make safe, non-hazardous batteries that are more energy dense than those currently on the market? How can we engineer viruses and bacteria to capture excess CO2 and convert it into building materials? Can we use self-assembly viruses that have been genetically engineered to provide a safe, cheap alternative for photovoltaic technology? We will hear from other inspiring women, in different careers who are taking on the challenges of science and technology today. The day will also include a panel discussion group.</span><br>
