<b>Title:</b> An Almost Isotropic Universe<br><br>In the Friedmann model of the universe, cosmologists assume that the spacelike universe has constant sectional curvature: so that it is either Euclidean, Spherical or Hyperbolic or a related space called a Space Form. Such spaces all have a Law of Cosines in which the length of the third side of a triange is determined by two legs and the angle between them. This assumption is "justified" by saying that locally the universe is isotropic (looks the same under rotation) by Schur's Theorem. However, the universe is not exactly isotropic due to the fact that matter is not distributed uniformly.<br>
<br>(This lecture series is intended for an advanced undergraduate or beginning graduate student audience. There will be pizza available after each talk. Mathematicians of all levels, areas, and genders are welcome!)<br>

<br></span>The Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) which was formed by
graduate students several years back in response to rising insurance
costs. Since then, however, graduate student participation has waned to
zero representation and we are now working on trying to fill up some
slots for this group. Essentially, they work from 1,000 feet up and
think about/make recommendations on institute-wide policy for MIT
Medical. The SHAC thinks much more broadly about
ways MIT Medical can best meet evolving student needs. There are
currently several undergrads, and perhaps three to four graduate student

mentorship program for MIT students. We are currently looking for a few
more mentors for our program, and were wondering if you would interested
in participating. <br>The MMBA Mentorship program consists of:<br><br>-Monthly 1 on 1 meetings with your mentee for lunch, coffee, etc.<br>-End-ff event 5/8/10 <br><br>The
main goal for our program is to equip each mentee with the tools
necessary to receive an summer internship or summer UROP offer. At our
kick-off event we will provide each mentor with some discussions topics

</b>Speaker and Workshop Leader: Evelyn Murphy, former Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts (1987-1991), was the first woman in the state’s history to hold statewide office. She is the founder of he WAGE (Women Are Getting Even) Project, Inc. and is dedicated to closing the wage gap in the workplace. She is the author of Getting Even in which negotiation skills and research on the wage gap are discussed.<br>
