University is pleased to announce our inaugural Conference for Pre-Tenure
Women. &nbsp;This conference is designed to enhance the success of female
faculty. The Purdue Conference is targeted to appeal to post-doctoral and
pre-tenure women. There will be specific breakout sessions focused on underrepresented
women in STEM, &nbsp;however most of the sessions are designed to appeal to
women from all disciplines. The overall conference goal is to provide
educational opportunities to help women identify strategies to enhance their
success for promotion and tenure.</p><p class="Clarissa">Conference
begins on Thursday, September 23 with a half day session facilitated by Campus
Women Lead. Friday sessions are a combination of plenary and breakout sessions,
focusing on Quality of Life, Practicalities of Work and Identity and Work issues.</p><p class="Clarissa">Featured
speakers will be:</p><p class="Clarissa"><span style="mso-bidi-font-family:Helvetica">- Mildred
Garcia, president of California State University, Dominguez Hills,<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="Clarissa"><span style="mso-bidi-font-family:Helvetica">and author of
"Succeeding in an Academic Career."<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="Clarissa"><span style="mso-bidi-font-family:Helvetica">- Lesia
Crumpton-Young, professor of industrial engineering and management systems at
the University of Central Florida. She is the author of the You've Got the
Power workbook series and the recipient of the 2006 Women of Color Educational
Leadership Award and the 1999 Educator of the Year Award from the National
Society of Black Engineers.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="Clarissa"><span style="mso-bidi-font-family:Helvetica">- Gertrude
Fraser, vice provost for Faculty Advancement at the University of Virginia, and
Kathleen Wong, assistant professor in the School of Communication at Western
Michigan University. They will lead a workshop on Mobilizing Women's Inclusive
Leadership Skills. Their work is a part of the Association of American Colleges
and Universities Campus Women Lead program.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="Clarissa"><span style="mso-bidi-font-family:Helvetica">- Former Purdue
trustee Susan Butler will lead a workshop based on her first book,
"Becoming the CEO of You."<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="Clarissa">A $150
registration fee is required to attend the conference. However, attendees may
apply for fellowships that will cover the cost of the conference fee and a
one-night stay at Purdue's Union Club Hotel.</p><p class="Clarissa">Fellowships will
be awarded to 20 applicants. The application deadline is Aug. 1.</p><p class="Clarissa">Registration for
