Search Committee for Assistant Director of WXGS 💪🏽

MIT Women’s and Gender Studies is working on creating the Search Committee to hire an Assistant Director of Women and Gender Services (WXGS<https://studentlife.mit.edu/womenmit>). It’s a brand new position that will run the Cheney Room working with Lauryn McNair, the Assistant Dean of Intercultural Engagement for LBGTQ+, Women & Gender Services (cc’d).

The Search Committee will be composed of 2 MIT students (one undergrad and one grad) and 2 – 3 MIT staff members. Sophia will be chairing the committee.

Responsibilities will include attending meetings with the entire Search Committee, attending the candidate interviews, and weighing in on interview questions. The first Search Committee meeting will include a brief unconscious bias training from HR. Reach out to Sophia if you are interested!

articulating ABORTION

Washington University of St. Louis Professor of Sociology Zakiya Luna will discuss Abortion Rights as Human Rights: The Continuing Fight for Reproductive Justice.

Luna is the Dean's Distinguished Professorial Scholar in the Department of Sociology at Washington University in St. Louis. Her research is in the areas of social change, sociology of law, health and inequality. Her focus is on social movements, human rights and reproduction with an emphasis on the effects of intersecting inequalities within and across these sites. She is the author ofBlack Feminist Sociology: Perspectives and Praxis (2022) and Reproductive Rights as Human Rights: Women of Color and the Fight for Reproductive Justice (2020).
