Are you prepared to be an innovator after MIT? In a recent survey of
graduate alumni, 99% report “being creative” as important in their roles
and 96% report “leadership” as also important. This same survey suggests
that 62-70% of MIT masters and doctoral alumni are supervising small
groups. Which raises the question; are you prepared for these professional
roles? Many are not and this is how our new class can differentiate you
from others.

Graduate students from across MIT are encouraged to apply to this new
leadership class – one that aims to develop your abilities to lead teams
that are charged with developing creative solutions to challenging problems.

This class will prepare students by:

   1. Developing greater self-awareness
   2. Building interpersonal and networking skills
   3. Developing abilities to lead teams and be an effective team member
   4. Learning how to ignite creativity in a collaborative environment

Enrollment is limited. Click here

We are looking for MIT graduate students who are passionate about
encouraging underrepresented undergraduates to apply to and attend graduate
school. Using the Grad Catalyst model, you will have the opportunity to
share your own personal experiences while teaching students at
minority-serving institutions how to prepare for and navigate the graduate
application process. The Grad Catalyst consists of a one-hour presentation
that covers what graduate school is and the steps students should take to
be successful graduate school applicants. The Grad Catalyst is meant to be
a conversation, which allows undergraduate students to get honest answers
from current graduate students. We will host an information session and
training for interested graduate students. Participation in the training
does not imply a long-term commitment and you will be able to decide
afterwards whether you want to participate in the Grad Catalyst or not.
Dinner will be provided.

If you can attend please sign-up here:

1916 ceremonial flotilla in which the Bucentaur barge transported the
Institute charter across the river to MIT's new home in Cambridge. All MIT
faculty, students, staff, and alumni are invited to form or join teams to
create entries that demonstrate movement: physically, artistically, and
creatively!

Complete competition details may be found on the Moving Day page of
the Celebrating
a Century in Cambridge website <http://j.mp/mitmovecompete>. The deadline
to register your team is Monday, February 8.

Those who wish to participate in the crossing but prefer not to compete are

*Where*: Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Harvard University (Knafel
Center, 10 Garden St, Cambridge, MA)
*Register*: link
<http://www.radcliffe.harvard.edu/event/2016-ways-with-words-conference>

This two-day symposium is asnapshot of the state of language in today's
society as it relates to, mirrors, and affects perceptions of gender.
Anthropologists, authors, computer scientists, journalists, linguists,
performing artists, politicians, and psychologists will explore different
facets of the interplay of gender and language.

The conference begins on Thursday evening with "Plays with Words," an
evening about language and gender in comedy, featuring comedian Cameron
Esposito and ImprovBoston. March 4 brings a full day of panels that will
consider moving beyond binary distinctions, what the Internet and big data
analysis can teach us about gender and language, and the role of gender in
public discourse. Through comparative perspectives, multidisciplinary
approaches, and contemporary examples, this conference examines the
inextricably related concepts of gender, language, and culture. Janet
Mock—a cultural commentator, advocate for trans women’s rights, and New
York Times bestselling author—will delivery the keynote address.
