Wondering how to navigate a conflict in the lab, with your PI, or a
roommate?
Come learn new skills in conflict management and de-escalation techniques
to help you prepare for those difficult conversations.

Join iREFS and the Director for Student Citizenship, Kevin Kraft,  for a
mini workshop to learn de-escalation techniques  including a brief
description of the formal conflict management options and complaint
resolution procedures at MIT.

Escalating conflict happens with regularity in all of our lives.  It
happens when your roommate starts an argument, when the your flight gets
cancelled and you loose your cool with the airline staff, and when everyday
conflicts in the lab or the office get heated.  This brief, interactive
workshop will give you the skills needed to de-escalate people who are in a
heightened conflict.  This is a fun workshop for people who want to learn a
valuable skill that will pay off in their professional career and personal
relationships.  No prior experience required.

Also included will be a brief description of the formal conflict management
options and complaint resolution procedures at MIT so that all participants
will know how to get the Institute’s help reporting misconduct and
resolving conflicts.

The Graduate Consortium in Women's Studies is pleased to announce the
second event in our Feminisms Unbound
<http://web.mit.edu/gcws/news+events/15-16FeminismsUnbound.html> series.
Please join us, and spread the word!

Our roundtable explores the ways in which both "queerness" and "diaspora"
each displace normative classifications of sexuality and nationality, with
consequences for the imagination of "futurity" in literature, visual
culture, and cultural politics. As queerness complicates the boundedness of
an ethnic, national or religious collectivity that desires to reproduce its
own identity, so may diaspora unsettle the normative white Europeanness of
conceptions of same-sex desire. Presenters discuss how diaspora figures
both geographical displacement and the crossing of figurative boundaries of
person, culture, society, and state, and they elaborate ways that queering
describes not only different embodiments of gender and sexuality, but also
a skewing of normative epistemology and social organization.

This event is free and open to the public.

Feminisms Unbound is organized by Kimberly Juanita Brown, Assistant

Jyoti Puri, Professor of Sociology, Simmons College.  Kimberly, Lisa, and
Jyoti are also Visiting Scholars with the GCWS this year, and we thank them
for their efforts programming this exciting set of roundtable discussions.
The goal of this series is to foster conversations and community among
Boston-area feminist intellectuals and activists and explore Women’s,
Gender, and Sexuality Studies topics at the edges of the field.

Ticket sales for the 2016 MIT GSC-Snowriders Ski Trip are less than a week
away!! Here is what you need to know:

   - The trip will take place from* January 8-11, 2016*, at Jay Peak Ski
   Resort in Vermont! The trip is open to all MIT affiliated graduate
   students, post-docs, and alumni. Each MIT affiliate can bring one
   non-affiliated guest!

   days. Be aware that tickets are limited and we expect them to sell fast, so

We are looking for a Head TA and TAs for the IAP course Momentum. Attached
are the job descriptions of both positions.

MOMENTUM is a 4 week course over MIT’s Independent Activities Period
(January 4th - January 29th). This year we will be partnering with the NSF
Center for Sensorimotor Neural Engineering. The Center explores the
brain-computer interface; its mission is to improve lives by connecting the
brain with technology. The theme will be: Explore the Brain Computer
Interface – Control the World with Your Mind. Students will work in small
teams to construct a system that controls a robotic arm in coordination
with a human arm to perform a task. The course will culminate with group
presentations to industry representatives.

We welcome a panel of transgender leaders and allies for a conversation on
gender identity and expression and the efforts to increase visibility,
build power in the transgender community, shift public opinion, and change
public policy. We hope to discuss different types of transgender
leadership, the impact of transgender erasure in historical narratives, and
the range of transgender identities including gender fluid, genderqueer,
agender and other non-binary identities.

The panel will be moderated by Kaden Mohamed, and the panel is comprised of
the following individuals: Alex Coleman, Eziah Karter-Sabir, Jennifer Levi,
Rev. Louis Mitchell, Jessica Mink, and Dana Pardee.

Are you interested in learning more about your body?
Are you trying to conceive naturally?

Partners Connected Health at Massachusetts General Hospital is conducting a
research study to evaluate a new vaginally-inserted temperature monitor.

The primary purpose of the study is to gather information about the safety
and user experience of the device and evaluate how well the device works
with predicting the day of ovulation and fertility window.

Participants may receive up to $500 for completing the study.
