On April 25th, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. The death toll has
risen above 4000, and still many more are injured.

MITeri, a Nepali group on campus, has set up a relief fund for donations,
which will be sent to Help Nepal Network <http://www.helpnepal.net/>, a
non-profit organization involved in  immediate disaster relief on ground.
Any donation amount will be highly appreciated.

*5. Violence Prevention Center - Get Involved with the Graduate Advisory

A graduate advisory committee to assist with VPR (Violence Prevention &
Response <https://medical.mit.edu/community/violence-prevention>) is
kicking off with a series of meetings over the summer (with the option to
follow up throughout the year, giving you the chance to be as involved as
you would like to be).

We are looking for people with a range of experiences with VPR and the
topics we work on, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you are
interested but feel like maybe you aren’t that familiar with our work. We
are looking for MIT grad students who would be willing to share information
about what being a grad student is like, give feedback on ideas, and help
tweak and/or plan various initiatives.

The Career Connect program of MIT spouses&partners is now featured on the
Crowdfund MIT website for the month of June! *We have reached our goal to
secure the full $2,500 in additional funding!! * Donations will continue to
be accepted until June 30th.

Crowdfund MIT is a pilot crowdfunding platform similar to Kickstarter. S&P
has been invited to present a project on their website. We are very proud
to showcase Career Connect, which has benefited over two thousand
participants since its inception in 2012.

GCWS graduate seminars are open to students across disciplines at all GCWS
member institutions

and PhD students are eligible to apply as well as advanced undergraduate
students doing work in a discipline related to the course topics. More

There is an application process for GCWS courses.  Applications are
accepted until the enrollment deadline and are reviewed by the seminar
instructors immediately following.  Students will be notified of their
final acceptance two to three days after the deadline. Students may apply
after the deadline, pending available space in the class.

2015-2016 Application Deadlines:
Fall application deadline: August 24, 2015**
Spring application deadline: January 4, 2016**

MASS AWIS has created a scholarship fund to help offset the cost of
membership for individuals suffering from hardship. If awarded, a MASS AWIS
Member Scholarship provides financial assistance for qualified unemployed
or underemployed applicants for individuals seeking Professional, Junior or
Student memberships. **Graduate Students/Post-Doctoral Fellows and those in
transition are encouraged to apply.** For more information on membership
levels, please see the National AWIS website, www.awis.org. For Student
membership information, visit http://massawis.org/student-membership/.

If awarded a scholarship, MASS AWIS will supplement 80% of the National
membership and 50% of the Chapter membership. NOTE, both memberships are
required.  We will do retrospective reimbursement. So if you qualify,
please apply to the scholarship even if you have already paid your dues
within the past year.

In addition to a scholarship, awardees will be given *“MASS AWIS
Bucks” *proportional
to the membership level. These “bucks” can be used to pay for MASS AWIS
events or mentoring circle fees.

Join MASS AWIS for a night of painting, chatting and dining. Choose from an
assortment of pottery pieces (bowls, plates, mugs, etc up to $12 in value).
The Clayroom allows those 21 and older to bring a bottle of wine or beer to
enjoy while they paint.

This social event is a great opportunity for MASS AWIS members to
re-connect and for prospective members to learn more about MASS AWIS.

Seating is limited to 40. Registration will close once the limit is reached
or by July 29th.

Here's a great travel opportunity happening this August that will bring
together a unique group of Biologists and Artists to explore the desert
borderlands of Texas and New Mexico. The ART+BIO Collaborative
<http://www.artbiocollaborative.com/about>, a Cambridge, MA non-profit, is
offering DESERT LIFE: Field Studies of Art+Nature in the Southwest, August
3-9. The program is designed for students, artists, scientists,
professionals and people generally interested in nature, art, and biology.

DESERT LIFE: Field Studies of Art+Nature in the Southwest is a hands-on,
immersive, and project-based program that integrates biology and art in the
field. We camp at various sites in west Texas and southwest New Mexico
during the program. The program provides an immersive experience of the
diverse environments of the Chihuahuan Desert, such as white sand dunes,
black lava rocks, mountain caves, and riparian habitats.
