The Orientation Women's Welcome Lunch is our biggest event to reach out to
new graduate women in the fall, and we're currently recruiting co-chairs!

*1. GWAMIT & Intel Women PhD Engineers Luncheon and Career Development

Intel will be in town this week, and we’d like to invite members of GWAMIT
to join our women PhD engineers for a casual lunch and career development
discussion. Lunch will be provided.

The topic is open to anything of interest to GWAMIT members, and we
encourage questions around work/life balance, working in a male dominated
field, value of graduate degree, etc. This is your time to ask whatever is
on your mind!  All degrees are welcome.

The panelists are:

   - *Rachel Sussman* is Data Team lead in the New Devices Group at Intel,
   where she is responsible for gathering and maintaining language data to
   support product development.  Before that, she worked at Fidelity
   Investments as a content strategist, internal technology communications
   specialist, and cartoon Frog.  She holds a Ph.D in Linguistics and Brain
   and Cognitive Science from the University of Rochester, and currently lives
   in Needham with her husband, daughter, and a cat named Pencil.
   - *Nevine Nassif* is a Senior Principal Engineer at Intel’s
   Massachusetts Design Center and is currently working on the next generation
   Intel Xeon Servers. She was the Haswell Server integration lead and has
   been involved in various facets of the design and delivery of Xeon,
   Itanium, Alpha and VAX processors. She holds a PhD in Electrical
   Engineering from McGill University.
   - *Lisa McGill* is an Integration Engineer in Intel's Portland
   Technology Development group, responsible for delivering NMOS transistor
   performance for the 10nm node.  Lisa holds a B.A. in Geological Sciences
   from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in Electronic Materials from MIT's
   Department of Materials Science and Engineering.
   - *Mondira (Mandy) Deb Pant* received her B.Tech in Computer Science and
   Engineering from I.I.T Kharagpur, India, a MS in Electrical Engineering and
   a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Georgia Institute of
   Technology, Atlanta, GA. She joined Intel in 2001 as part of the Alpha team
   acquisition from Compaq Computer Corporation where she worked since
   graduating in 2000.Over the past several  years, as a lead technologist in
   the area of power delivery and power management, she investigated and drove
   several issues in the power space, particularly on-chip power delivery
   issues, power management and power reduction on the next generation server
   microprocessors. She has led Intel's die power delivery synergy efforts and
   recently driven Intel's power delivery Roadmap program. Further, she has
   also been a key player in driving and deploying Intel's internal innovation
   programs. In her current role of Academic Research Director at Intel, she
   loves working with leading academic researchers worldwide and technical
   experts at Intel to seed and drive research efforts in areas of strategic
   importance to Intel in particular and the computing industry in general.
   She is regarded as a very strong and motivating technical speaker having
   given numerous invited talks at various conferences and universities,
   including several keynote talks and Distinguished lectures and sits on the
   TPC on several top VLSI conferences. She is an active proponent of STE(A)M
   for Women and young girls and has participated in various efforts in
   promoting it particularly in the New England area. In 2009, Mandy was
   recognized by Mass High Tech as one of the top ten upcoming Women to Watch
   in the New England area.  In 2013, she was recognized by the India New
   England journal as one of the top 20 South Asian Women of 2013 in the New
   England area. She is currently Technical Vice-Chair for Intel’s biggest
   internal design conference.

held during the first week of orientation in September. The OWWL is a great
opportunity to gain experience planning an event essential to connecting
and informing the incoming graduate women community, network and get to
know offices like ODGE and GSC that advocate for graduate students, and get
involved in GWAMIT!

On April 25th, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. The death toll has
risen above 4000, and still many more are injured.

MITeri, a Nepali group on campus, has set up a relief fund for donations,
which will be sent to Help Nepal Network <http://www.helpnepal.net/>, a
non-profit organization involved in  immediate disaster relief on ground.
Any donation amount will be highly appreciated.

Openings are now available in the Graduate Community Fellows program in the
Office of the Dean for Graduate Education!

Graduate Community Fellows are a cadre of graduate students who work on
projects and assignments that enhance MIT graduate community in unique
ways.  Fellows receive partial stipend support for the length of their
appointment period.  Each Fellow reports to a staff member either in the
Office of the Dean for Graduate Education or in a partner organization, and
focuses on a specific project.

*7. Rising Stars Workshop for Early Career Women*

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at MIT is inviting
top early career women (postdocs and advanced PhD students) in CEE and
related fields who are interested in careers in academia to apply for
participation in an expenses-paid, two-day workshop (Oct 15-16, 2015).
Participants will have an opportunity to present their research, as well as
attend panel discussions with faculty focused on issues related to
navigating the early stages of an academic career. The goal of this "Rising
Stars" workshop is to foster a new generation of women in academia and
promote diversity in the faculty ranks.

*8. VPR Graduate Student Advisory Board *

VPR (Violence Prevention & Response

soliciting help for a small group of graduate students to sit on the
Violence Prevention and Response Graduate Advisory Board (VPR-GAB). The
commitment is a short 1 hour evening meeting every other week with an
invitation to stay on for monthly meetings in the future. Their purpose
will be to assist with VPR’s programming and outreach efforts within the
graduate community. We are looking for MIT grad students who would be
willing to share information about what being a grad student is like, give
feedback on ideas, and help tweak and/or plan various initiatives.

We are looking for 10-20 students. The participants will be gifted
generously for their time. Please let me know if you have any questions. If
you're interested, let Amanda know directly. Thank you again for your
continued support of VPR and all of our efforts!

We wanted to hear voices, values and visions of today’s girls and young
women, worldwide. So in 2014, 4Girls Glocal Leadership (4GGL)
<http://4ggl.org> launched the first-ever  global empowerment survey in 5
different languages!

We are currently tallying feedback we received during our survey to share
the results of our empowerment research! But we *need support* to analyze
this qualitative data as soon as possible. If you are interested, contact

specific information.

The P.A. Shaw Elementary School

teacher who holds an Elementary Science license with preference for an
additional Early Childhood license.  This position is part of the ELT focus
on project based learning as it relates to STEM.  The candidate will be
working Tuesday - Friday from approximately 10:15am - 3:20pm..

The P.A. Shaw reopened its doors the Fall of 2014 with grades K0-K2 and
will expand to 1st grade for the Fall of 2015. We have established our core
values as Respect, Excellence and Perseverance and aim to achieve these
values through teamwork and collaboration. Instructionally, our goal is to
provide students with hands-on, project based learning with real-world
application.

This position will entail piloting and tailoring the new 1st Grade
curriculum. Preferred candidates are ones that hold an elementary school
license, hold and/or pursuing their Moderate Disabilities license, and have
a deep understanding of literacy and reading development.  As an
open-posted position, there is a $1,250 stipend associated with this
position for the performance of additional duties, including teacher
leadership responsibilities.
