On April 25th, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. The death toll has
risen above 4000, and still many more are injured.

MITeri, a Nepali group on campus, has set up a relief fund for donations,
which will be sent to Help Nepal Network <http://www.helpnepal.net/>, a
non-profit organization involved in  immediate disaster relief on ground.
Any donation amount will be highly appreciated.

Openings are now available in the Graduate Community Fellows program in the
Office of the Dean for Graduate Education!

Graduate Community Fellows are a cadre of graduate students who work on
projects and assignments that enhance MIT graduate community in unique
ways.  Fellows receive partial stipend support for the length of their
appointment period.  Each Fellow reports to a staff member either in the
Office of the Dean for Graduate Education or in a partner organization, and
focuses on a specific project.

*5. Rising Stars Workshop for Early Career Women*

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at MIT is inviting
top early career women (postdocs and advanced PhD students) in CEE and
related fields who are interested in careers in academia to apply for
participation in an expenses-paid, two-day workshop (Oct 15-16, 2015).
Participants will have an opportunity to present their research, as well as
attend panel discussions with faculty focused on issues related to
navigating the early stages of an academic career. The goal of this "Rising
Stars" workshop is to foster a new generation of women in academia and
promote diversity in the faculty ranks.

*6. VPR Graduate Student Advisory Board *

VPR (Violence Prevention & Response
<https://medical.mit.edu/community/violence-prevention>) is currently
soliciting help for a small group of graduate students to sit on the
Violence Prevention and Response Graduate Advisory Board (VPR-GAB). The
commitment is a short 1 hour evening meeting every other week with an
invitation to stay on for monthly meetings in the future. Their purpose
will be to assist with VPR’s programming and outreach efforts within the
graduate community. We are looking for MIT grad students who would be
willing to share information about what being a grad student is like, give
feedback on ideas, and help tweak and/or plan various initiatives.

We are looking for 10-20 students. The participants will be gifted
generously for their time. Please let me know if you have any questions. If
you're interested, let Amanda know directly. Thank you again for your
continued support of VPR and all of our efforts!

after the deadline, pending available space in the class.

We wanted to hear voices, values and visions of today’s girls and young
women, worldwide. So in 2014, 4Girls Glocal Leadership (4GGL)
<http://4ggl.org> launched the first-ever  global empowerment survey in 5
different languages!

We are currently tallying feedback we received during our survey to share
the results of our empowerment research! But we *need support* to analyze
this qualitative data as soon as possible. If you are interested, contact

specific information.

teacher who holds an Elementary Science license with preference for an
additional Early Childhood license.  This position is part of the ELT focus
on project based learning as it relates to STEM.  The candidate will be
working Tuesday - Friday from approximately 10:15am - 3:20pm..

The P.A. Shaw reopened its doors the Fall of 2014 with grades K0-K2 and
will expand to 1st grade for the Fall of 2015. We have established our core
values as Respect, Excellence and Perseverance and aim to achieve these
values through teamwork and collaboration. Instructionally, our goal is to
provide students with hands-on, project based learning with real-world
application.

This position will entail piloting and tailoring the new 1st Grade
curriculum. Preferred candidates are ones that hold an elementary school
license, hold and/or pursuing their Moderate Disabilities license, and have
a deep understanding of literacy and reading development.  As an
open-posted position, there is a $1,250 stipend associated with this
position for the performance of additional duties, including teacher
leadership responsibilities.

The Massachusetts Chapter of the National Organization for Women (Mass NOW
<http://www.massnow.org>) is the largest multi-issue feminist organization
in Massachusetts and is sponsoring the Feminism in Action Grant Contest.
We want to make sure that as many young feminists as possible in
Massachusetts can hear about this and have the chance to apply.

The 2015 Feminism in Action Contest seeks to inspire young feminists to use
$3,000 in grant funds to improve the lives of women and girls by creating
an education-based project in Massachusetts.

At Mass NOW, we work every day on our six priority issue areas:
(1) constitutional and civil rights;
(2) reproductive and health rights;
(3) racial justice;
(4) LGBTQ rights;
(5) violence against women; and
(6) economic equality.

Feminism in Action projects must relate to one or more of Mass NOW’s
priority issue areas.  Some examples include: creating a public education
media campaign on transgender equal rights, starting a sexual health
resource center at your school or in your community, or organizing a
conference on domestic violence.
