2. Join the Association for Women in Engineering for Free!

MIT has become an institutional partner of the Association for Women in Science, AWIS. AWIS does a lot of excellent work in gender equity, and is especially helpful in providing advice and information to students, postdocs and young faculty. For more information, see https://awis.site-ym.com/?InstitutePartners#MIT and http://awis.site-ym.com/?WhatWeDo.

3. An Evening with Ambassadors of the U.S. Clean Energy Education and Empowerment Program (C3E)
When: September 15, 6:30-8:30pm
Where: MIT campus, Room 04-163
RSVP: http://bit.ly/1opH1HT

The U.S. C3E Ambassadors will be gathering in September for the annual Women in Clean Energy Symposium. Join us for a special night with a select group of these ambassadors. These women will discuss their careers - important decisions made and challenges overcome, as well as the trends they see in clean energy technology and policy that will influence tomorrow's energy landscape. Panelists include Rose McKinney-James, Managing Principal of Energy Works LLC and President of McKinney-James & Associates; Kim Saylors-Laster, VP of Energy for Walmart; Dymphna van der Lans, CEO of the Clinton Climate Initiative; Nancy Pfund, Founder and Managing Partner of DBL Investors, and Dian Grueneich, Senior Research Scholar at Stanford University with a long history of government service. Full bios for the panelists available at http://c3eawards.org/about-c3e/c3e-ambassadors/. Networking begins at 6:30, and panel at 7:00. Snacks will be provided.

What is C3E? The Clean Energy Education & Empowerment (C3E) Initiative was launched by the 23-government Clean Energy Ministerial in 2010. The U.S. C3E initiative, executed in collaboration by the MIT Energy Initiative and the Department of Energy, is "designed to attract, retain, and advance the careers of women in the field." One pillar of the U.S. C3E Initiative are the Ambassadors, distinguished senior professionals with extensive experience in the clean energy field.

4. Fall Reception for New Women at MIT
When: Monday, September 29th 4:30-6pm
Where: Bush Room (10-105)

This fall the MIT Women's League will once again host its annual reception to welcome new women in the MIT community. Our wish is to extend our invitation to all women in faculty, administrative, academic, research, and support staff positions who have come to MIT since October 2013, as well as to the wives or significant others of new faculty, administrative, academic, research, and support staff members who have come to MIT since that time.

On this occasion, these newcomers are introduced to helpful MIT offices and services as well as to the Women's League, to ease their transitions into our community, helping to make them smooth and informative. As administrative officers you have the most current information about new arrivals in your workplace. Your assistance in identifying these newly arrived women in the past has contributed enormously to the success of this outreach.

Please forward the names and addresses (home addresses if possible) and MIT affiliation (spouse, employee, etc.) of the women new to your department to the League office via email to esdeb at mit.edu<mailto:esdeb at mit.edu> or via fax to 253-5433. Also, please tell us if there are no new women in your area this year, as that information is helpful too.

To keep to our schedule, we will need to receive your list of new women by September 2nd. Please contact Sis de Bordenave in the League office at 253-3656 if you have any questions.

5. Christine Mirzayan Science and Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program
Application Deadline: September 1st
Apply at: http://sites.nationalacademies.org/PGA/policyfellows/index.htm

The Christine Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program is designed to engage early career individuals in the analytical processes that inform U.S. science and technology policy. Fellows obtain the essential skills and knowledge needed to work in science and technology policy at the federal, state, or local levels. Fellows spend 12 weeks at the National Academies in Washington, DC learning about science and technology policy and the role that scientists and engineers play in advising the nation. Each year, applicants from around the world become part of a National Academies committee, board, or unit. Each fellow is assigned to a senior staff member who acts as his or her mentor. The mentor provides guidance and ensures that the fellow's time is focused on substantive projects and activities within the fellow's assigned unit. An immersive experience, the program is designed to broaden fellows'appreciation of employment opportunities outside academia and leave them with both a firm grasp of the important and dynamic role of science and technology in decision-making and a better understanding of the role that they can play in strengthening the science and technology enterprise for the betterment of mankind.
