2. Cambridge Science Festival @MIT museum

Throughout the Cambridge Science Festival, the MIT Museum in collaboration with the City of Cambridge, community organizations, schools, universities, and businesses hosts a range of performances, discussions, and workshops and activities.  Some of the events will focus on Space Day, Printing 3D Ships, and Science You Can Eat.

Admission throughout the festival is $10.00/adult and $5.00/youth, students, and seniors.

3. Breaking Silence: A Community Response to Sexual Assault @ MIT

When: Saturday, April 26th

Collaborate on innovative new ideas for solutions to problems in four main areas:  Urban Agriculture, Food Waste, Financing Sustainable Food and Ag, and Local Food Systems. This free event will culminate in a 2-minute pitch to a panel of judges, after which over $5000 in prize money will be awarded! We have organized two panels on April 15th and April 23rd, where representatives from industry, startups, and local government will speak about some of the outstanding problems needing solutions.

6. Scientista: a Celebration of Women in Science

To celebrate the accomplishments of women in science and to inspire other women to follow in their footstep, the Scientista Foundation has partnered with Mettler Toledo and LabX Media to conduct a series of six interviews with influential North American scientists to highlight their achievements and contributions, and to ask them what advice they have for the next generation of scientific pioneers.

The interviews are hosted by "I F★cking Love Science" founder Elise Andrew, and will air the second week of every month from April through September. 7. [MASS AWIS] Alternative Careers in Science: Speed Networking Event

MASS AWIS  in conjunction with Boston University Office of Postdoctoral Affairs and Cambridge Science Festival, presents a Speed Networking Event for Alternative Careers in Science.

This event is for women and men within the scientific community (from undergrads to early career levels) who are interested in exploring diverse career options in science. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with 10-15 experienced individuals who will give insight into their chosen professions. The event will be held in a speed-networking fashion with participants switching tables every 15 minutes for a total of 5 sessions. Please note this is not a career fair.

Career areas: Consulting, Patent Law, Research & Development, Technology Transfer, Publishing/Medical Writing, Academia, Business Development, Competitive Intelligence, Teaching, Medical Science Liaison, Sales and Human Resources.

8. Sense About Science – applications for Ask for Evidence Workshop
When: Wednesday, April 23rd, 5:30pm
Where: Emerson College, Boston

Do you think it is important for good science and evidence to be communicated to the public? What can be done to address scientific misconceptions and misinformation? Journalists and scientists will share insights on working with the media.We will share case studies and experiences of people Asking for Evidence behind claims in policy, media and advertising.

This free evening event runs from 5.30 to 7.30pm and includes pizza served in the break. It's open to everyone: the public, students, communicators, early career researchers, scientists, engineers and medics.

Inspire future generations of scientists and spread the word about GWIS to teachers and parents. GWIS is a sponsor of the 2014 USA Science and Engineering Festival to be held April 24-27, 2014 in Washington, DC. http://www.usasciencefestival.org/

Please consider volunteering to help with the GWIS experiment demonstration booth during the Festival. Volunteers will be performing DNA extractions; explaining how DNA works; and, importantly, serving as role models to future scientists and talking to teachers and parents about GWIS! The Festival takes place April 24-27, 2014. GWIS will have two side-by-side booths, and we'll need between 3-5 volunteers to man each booth (6-10 people total) at all times, including set-up and during festival hours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. GWIS will be providing room and board in the form of hotel rooms and lodgings with Omicron members. Some travel expenses will also be covered.
