At different points in our lives and careers, we are faced with opportunities, setbacks, and difficult choices. The 2014 SWIM Conference, entitled “Challenge Accepted”, is about facing these events head-on — whether you hope to start your own business or join the C-Suite.
 
We will hear from leaders across a variety of industries that have achieved success in often arduous environments. And many of us have our own challenges and opportunities on the horizon. This interactive forum will discuss how to approach each new opportunity and setback with confidence, forward-thinking, and trust in your abilities and networks.
 
 
4. MIT Women’s Chorale Holiday Concert (Sat. Dec. 7, 6pm)

The MIT Women’s Chorale 2013 Holiday Concert will be held on December 7, 6 PM, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 838 Massachusetts Ave. (Central Square), Cambridge, MA. FREE. A reception will follow the concert.
 
The lovely Magnificat of Nicola Porpora, sung with string ensemble and organ, and other music of the season, including pieces by Glinka, Elgar, Grassi, Arresti, and Orrego-Salas.
 
 
5. Women’s League Community Craft Fair (Thurs. Dec. 12 – Fri. Dec. 13)

You may just find the perfect gift for a relative or friend! Knitted scarves, hand-made cards, jewelry of all types, specialty gifts and more, may be found for sale at the annual Holiday Craft Fair sponsored by the MIT Women's League Community Crafters.
 
If you are a crafter and would like to sell your creations at the fair, log on to the Women's League website at web.mit.edu/womensleague and go to 'Get Involved,' then to 'Community Craft Fairs,' and then to 'Application.' Under 'Community Craft Fairs,' you will also find a link to the 'Community Craft Fairs Policy.' All applications will be reviewed by the MIT Women's League Craft Fair Committee, appointed by the MIT Women's League Executive Board.

Escape the cold winter to the Caribbean in this one-of-a-kind, art+nature immersion experience in Puerto Rico! Join us for an artistic exploration of the diverse tropical wildlife from rainforest, mountain, beach and coastal environments. Through hands-on observation, artistic interpretation and various biological methods, we will learn to utilize the natural habitat as a studio/lab to make informed art about tropical plants, animals, and nature.
 
Program Director and Instructor: Stephanie Dowdy-Nava, M.A. Stephanie is an artist, arts administrator, certified art educator, and Co-Founder of ART+BIO Collaborative. She has traveled extensively throughout Puerto Rico over the past 11 years assisting with biological research, observing animal behavior, collecting organisms for animal communication studies and finding inspiration for her art. She is fluent in Spanish and has a B.A. in Studio Art (Painting) and an M.A. in Arts Administration. Her artwork incorporates images from nature and stunning geography as symbols that piece together the story of her ongoing evolution.
 
 
7. De la Femme's "How to Effectively Network for Better Opportunities" Career Event (Wed. Dec. 4, 6pm)

It has been recorded at various universities that less than 20% of students got their first job from a direct application to an employer. The other 80% received employment through networking. This remains true throughout one’s professional career. It is easy enough to show up to a networking event, but talking to random people is simply not enough.
 
Learn how to effectively network with our dynamic speaker, Manijeh Goldberg, CEO and Founder of Privo Technologies. Manijeh will discuss the How To guide to networking, as well as its importance, and how it has helped her in her career.

The 9th annual Massachusetts Conference for Women will be held December 5, 2013 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. The one-day event, the largest women's conference in the country, will feature inspirational keynote speakers, skill-building breakout sessions and ample opportunities to develop new relationships with other women leaders. With sessions ranging from personal finance to health and wellness to career advancement, this unique event offers something for everyone.
 
Kerry Washington, accomplished film and stage actress and women’s rights activist, will be a keynote speaker. Washington will address this year’s theme “The Power of Us,” along with other nationally recognized speakers including Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, media executive and bestselling author Cathie Black and leadership advisor and author Erica Ariel Fox. They are among the more than one hundred speakers who will address the Conference.
