Dear GWAMIT Members,
 
We are pleased to extend an invitation to the GWAMIT Fall Leadership Conference, kicking off next week, November 4-14, 2013. 
 
One of three flagship programs organized by Graduate Women at MIT, the Fall Leadership Conference is geared towards supporting the professional development and personal growth of graduate women at MIT.

The theme of this year’s Leadership Conference is “Take the Wheel”, and will be held during the weeks of November 4-14.  We are honored to feature an opening keynote by Rachel Simmons (author of “The Curse of the Good Girl”) entitled “Good Girls & Great Leaders: Leadership in a Gendered World” and a closing keynote by Robin Chase (co-founder and former CEO of Zipcar) entitled “Driving the Future Sustainable Collaborative Economy.”

Opening Keynote: "Good Girls & Great Leaders: Leadership in a Gendered World" - Rachel Simmons
Speaker: Rachel Simmons

Description: In the opening keynote of the conference, Rachel Simmons, author of New York Times bestsellers Odd Girl Out and The Curse of the Good Girl, will speak on how to be more authentic, assertive, and self-aware. A catered reception will follow.

Panel on Women in Academia
Speakers: Claudia Goldin, Radhika Nagpal, & Rochelle Walensky. Moderated by JoAnne Yates.
Time: Thurs, Nov 7, 11:45 – 12:45 (Lunch served 11:30am)
Venue: 32-G449 (Kiva Room, Stata Center)
Description: We are pleased to welcome panelists Claudia Goldin, Henry Lee Professor of Economics at Harvard University and author of Understanding the Gender Gap: An Economic History of American Women; Radhika Nagpal, Fred Kavli Professor of Computer Science at Harvard University, MIT alum, and author of the popular Scientific American Guest Blog article “The Awesomest 7-Year Postdoc or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Tenure-Track Faculty Life;” and Rochelle Walensky, a physician-researcher, Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and author of a popular piece on pregnancy “disclosure” that appeared in JAMA. JoAnne Yates, Sloan Distinguished Professor of Management at MIT, will moderate the event.

Closing Keynote: "Driving the Future Sustainable Collaborative Economy" - Robin Chase

Description: Robin Chase will speak on her pioneering work and ideas on leadership and “why sharing is the future.” Chase will share her thoughts on innovation, entrepreneurship, and networking, as well as her unique message of why “high integrity” is at the core of her work. Reception to follow.
