the planning committee for the leadership conference to be held this fall.

-Positions available: event co-leads, logistic co-chairs, and advertising
co-chairs.
- Perks: opportunities to connect with top-notch speakers, develop
leadership and event planning skills, and work with like-minded, awesome
graduate women across all departments at MIT.

*2. Should the MIT Energy Club Launch a Women in Energy Community?

The MIT Energy Club is always looking for opportunities to support the
interests of members. With that in mind, they are exploring the creation of
a Women in Energy Community. This Community would focus on promoting career
and leadership development through speaking events and networking
opportunities that highlight women leaders across this sector.

However, they want to know what's important to women at MIT. If you would
be interested in joining, leading or contributing to the Women in Energy
Community, please let them know by completing the survey linked above.


*3. Leadershape Positions Available (June 3-9, Apply ASAP)

The MIT/SUTD collaboration is looking for a cluster facilitator for its
Leadershape program to be held June 3-9, 2013 at the Wonderland Conference
Center in Sharon, MA. The goal of this Leadershape program is to help
cultivate ideas of developing goals, thinking outside the box, being strong
leaders, and pushing the edges of engineering creativity and critical
thinking amongst Singaporean students from SUTD. It is crucial for the
female students from SUTD to have female role models.

Cluster facilitators will work with a group of undergraduate students from
SUTD and MIT to build skills in leadership, creative thinking, and
teamwork. It is a paid position, and facilitators stay at the camp for the
week.


*4. Not Networking 101—Building Relationships for Success (Mon. June 10,
3-4:30pm)

Networking has gotten a really bad name these days. I take your card, you
take my card, and then we don’t call each other. This workshop is designed
to reintroduce you to how strong professional relationships can be
necessary for most people to succeed in their careers. It will provide
practical tools for meeting people and for nurturing new and established
connections

Dr. Joanne Kamens received her PhD in Genetics from Harvard Medical School
and then spent 15 years at BASF/Abbott, where she led discovery research
projects on small molecule and antibody approaches to inflammatory
diseases, ultimately serving as Group Leader in Molecular Biology. In 2011,
Dr. Kamens became the Executive Director of Addgene, a mission driven,
non-profit dedicated to helping scientists around the world collaborate.
Dr. Kamens founded the current Boston chapter of AWIS. In 2013, she was
elected as a fellow to the Massachusetts Academy of Science for service to
science and the community.

Join HGWISE for a coffee hour featuring Dr. Christine Goddard. Christine
currently is a Principal at Fish & Richardson, an international law firm.
She graduated from Harvard Chemistry in 1999 and went on to build a career
in intellectual property law, acquiring her law degree in 2010.  You can

*10. Women in Science and Engineering Computer Science Bootcamp (June
24-25, Register now)
When:* Monday, June 24 – Tuesday, June 25

Our goal is to help scientists and engineers become more productive by
teaching them basic computing skills like program design, version control,
testing, and task automation. In this two-day boot camp, short tutorials
will alternate with hands-on practical exercises. Participants will be
encouraged both to help one another, and to apply what they have learned to
their own research problems during and between sessions. There will be
online follow up sessions for 6 to 8 weeks extending the material from the
boot camp.

This boot camp is open to female graduate students, post-docs, faculty
members, staff scientists, or their equivalent in science, engineering,
medicine, or a related field in academia, industry, or the public and
non-profit sectors. Participants should have some prior experience with
basic programming.

We have a great opportunity for you to give back and volunteer this summer
with Science Club for Girls. This July we will be holding Summer Science
Week at Lasell College from July 9th - July 12th. Summer Science Week is an
opportunity for girls all over the greater Boston area to participate in
free STEM programming.

During the day, they work with volunteers who teach STEM curricula, and
during the afternoon, the girls go on field trips related to what they've
been learning. We are hoping you can volunteers as a Science Teacher in the
morning or a Field Trip Chaperone in the afternoon for Summer Science Week.
You can volunteer for multiple positions on multiple days, or just one
position for one day during the week. If you are interested in volunteering
for Summer Science Week, you can complete the application online. Want to

Science Week" in the subject line.
