Interested in helping women graduate students connect to faculty and alumni
mentors? Excited about applying your technical and organizing skills to
creative projects? Come and join us at the Mentoring Program Committee!

What is the Mentoring Program?
- A yearlong program: we match mentors and mentees during the summer, and
groups meet individually every month
- Events during the year:  kick-off dinner, February social, spring
reception, and more informal events during the summer

If you're interested or would like to know more details, please send an
email to Ricarose ria at mit.edu or Xuwen xwzhu at mit.edu as soon as possible.
We are having monthly dinner meetings, and you're welcome to join!

Writing your proposal? Planning your dissertation? Completing your
dissertation? You don't need to go it alone! This writers' group will help
you manage your time and stress as you write your proposal, plan and
outline your dissertation, and complete it and journal articles. The group
will discuss ways to work more effectively, prioritize, and use resources
available at MIT. Check in on weekly goals, hear others' experiences, and
decompress.

Cookies, tea, and hot water provided; Keurig coffee available for $.50.
Bring your mug and favorite tea if you wish. Sponsored by the MIT Writing
and Communication Center.


*3. MIT Women’s League Annual Meeting (Fri. May 17, 12-2pm)

Each May, the MIT Women’s League holds its annual meeting, at which a
summary of the activities and business of the past academic year is given.
New and returning Board Officers for the slate are introduced and presented
for election. It is also an occasion with a guest speaker.

This year, we are honored to have MIT First Lady Christine (Chris) Reif as
our guest speaker. In addition to her role as the Honorary Chair of the MIT
Women's League, she also serves as a member of the Council for the Arts at
MIT and as a member of the Medical Consumers Advisory Council at MIT.

To reserve your place at the annual meeting, contact the League office at
617.253.3656 or wleague at mit.edu. The cost of the luncheon is $15.00.
Seating is limited. Open to MIT community only.

Join HGWISE for a coffee hour featuring Dr. Christine Goddard. Christine
currently is a Principal at Fish & Richardson, an international law firm.
She graduated from Harvard Chemistry in 1999 and went on to build a career
in intellectual property law, acquiring her law degree in 2010.  You can

students and post docs who are considering jobs outside of academia. An

tips from professionals involved in hiring decisions in industry, academia,
consulting, tech transfer, and more. Experts will be in attendance to

*6. Women in Science and Engineering Computer Science Bootcamp (June 24-25,
Register now)
When:* Monday, June 24 – Tuesday, June 25
*Where:* Microsoft Research, 1 Cambridge Center, Cambridge

Our goal is to help scientists and engineers become more productive by
teaching them basic computing skills like program design, version control,
testing, and task automation. In this two-day boot camp, short tutorials
will alternate with hands-on practical exercises. Participants will be
encouraged both to help one another, and to apply what they have learned to
their own research problems during and between sessions. There will be
online follow up sessions for 6 to 8 weeks extending the material from the
boot camp.

This boot camp is open to female graduate students, post-docs, faculty
members, staff scientists, or their equivalent in science, engineering,
medicine, or a related field in academia, industry, or the public and
non-profit sectors. Participants should have some prior experience with
basic programming.


*7. Volunteer with Science Club for Girls (July 9-12, Apply now)

We have a great opportunity for you to give back and volunteer this summer
with Science Club for Girls. This July we will be holding Summer Science
Week at Lasell College from July 9th - July 12th. Summer Science Week is an
opportunity for girls all over the greater Boston area to participate in
free STEM programming.

During the day, they work with volunteers who teach STEM curricula, and
during the afternoon, the girls go on field trips related to what they've
been learning. We are hoping you can volunteers as a Science Teacher in the
morning or a Field Trip Chaperone in the afternoon for Summer Science Week.
You can volunteer for multiple positions on multiple days, or just one
position for one day during the week. If you are interested in volunteering
for Summer Science Week, you can complete the application online. Want to
know more? Email me back at volunteer at scienceclubforgirls.org with "Summer
Science Week" in the subject line.
