Interested in helping women graduate students connect to faculty and alumni
mentors? Excited about applying your technical and organizing skills to
creative projects? Come and join us at the Mentoring Program Committee!

What is the Mentoring Program?
- A yearlong program: we match mentors and mentees during the summer, and
groups meet individually every month
- Events during the year:  kick-off dinner, February social, spring
reception, and more informal events during the summer

If you're interested or would like to know more details, please send an
email to Ricarose ria at mit.edu or Xuwen xwzhu at mit.edu as soon as possible.
We are having monthly dinner meetings, and you're welcome to join!
(Committee members get to choose their own mentors!)

GWAMIT is actively recruiting energetic, motivated graduate women to join
the planning committee for the leadership conference to be held this fall.

-Positions available: event co-leads, logistic co-chairs, and advertising
co-chairs.
-Perks: opportunities to connect with top-notch speakers, develop
leadership and event planning skills, and work with like-minded, awesome
graduate women across all departments at MIT.

*3. Graduate Community Fellow “Programs for Women” Position Open (Apply now)

The “Programs for Women” Graduate Community Fellow supports graduate
student programs and events for women by working closely with, and
reporting to, the Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Education. The
appointment period will begin in June and continue through May 31.

The work includes the following:
-Plan, implement, and evaluate programs and events that promote the
professional and leadership development of graduate women students
-Assist in creation and stewardship of opportunities for graduate women to
build and broaden networks of support to enhance the graduate experience
-Assist in designing and implementing approaches to assess and document the
success of programmatic efforts
-Interact with departments, administrative offices, and student groups with
which the ODGE partners or whose activities the ODGE funds
-Develop marketing tools for programs and events
-Convene focus groups to identify student needs, interests, and experiences
-Partner with other Fellows on mutually beneficial projects

Skills required include: strong organizational skills; strong communication
skills; experience with project planning; enjoys working on a team.

Serving on an Institute Committee as a graduate student enables you to
significantly impact important decisions made by the Institute. You will
serve as a voting member of a committee, which advises faculty and
administration, and ultimately reports to the MIT President. During the
Spring/Summer, these positions are relatively open, which makes this the
best time to apply for the committee of your choice.

Applications for Graduate Representatives to 2013-2014 Institute Committees
are now being accepted. Appointments will be announced in July. Please

Are you a leader? Are you passionate about women in science? The Scientista
Foundation is looking for Regional Officers this summer (2013) that will
create vibrant communities for women in science in your region.

As a regional officer, you will be responsible for mobilizing your
city/region! That means planning a minimum of 1 event per month in your
area and advertising your events through the Scientista regional lists, the
Scientista Facebook pages, and Scientista university networks, etc. Events
can be social (meetup at a resturant/bar) or educational (panel events with
speakers).

Some additional roles include:
- Marketing your Scientista events and getting the word out
- Planning the logistics of your events and serving as the host
- Working with a fab team of energetic and exciting Scientistas! (You'll
work with the co-founders and the national RO team, as well as any other
ROs who signed up in your region.)
- Researching events and resources in your city


*7. Women in Science and Engineering Computer Science Bootcamp (June 24-25,
Register now)

Our goal is to help scientists and engineers become more productive by
teaching them basic computing skills like program design, version control,
testing, and task automation. In this two-day boot camp, short tutorials
will alternate with hands-on practical exercises. Participants will be
encouraged both to help one another, and to apply what they have learned to
their own research problems during and between sessions. There will be
online follow up sessions for 6 to 8 weeks extending the material from the
boot camp.

This boot camp is open to female graduate students, post-docs, faculty
members, staff scientists, or their equivalent in science, engineering,
medicine, or a related field in academia, industry, or the public and
non-profit sectors. Participants should have some prior experience with
basic programming.

We have a great opportunity for you to give back and volunteer this summer
with Science Club for Girls. This July we will be holding Summer Science
Week at Lasell College from July 9th - July 12th. Summer Science Week is an
opportunity for girls all over the greater Boston area to participate in
free STEM programming.

During the day, they work with volunteers who teach STEM curricula, and
during the afternoon, the girls go on field trips related to what they've
been learning. We are hoping you can volunteers as a Science Teacher in the
morning or a Field Trip Chaperone in the afternoon for Summer Science Week.
You can volunteer for multiple positions on multiple days, or just one
position for one day during the week. If you are interested in volunteering
for Summer Science Week, you can complete the application online. Want to

*9. New York Academy of Science Fellowship Opportunity (Apply by Mon. July
15)

The New York Academy of Sciences, in partnership with the U.S. Department
of State and a consortium of over 30 U.S. women's colleges, has launched
the 2nd year of the NeXXt Scholars Program. This Program aims to engage and
advance American women and women from countries with predominantly Muslim
populations to pursue undergraduate degrees in Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Math (STEM) academic fields.

In order to accomplish this goal, the Academy will provide partnership,
mentorship, and networking support for these scholars, by way of a STEM
Fellow. The deadline for mentor applications is Monday, July 15th. We’re
looking for female STEM professionals, graduate-level students, and
postdocs who have a desire to help the next generation of women break into
STEM-related fields. More information about the NeXXt Fellow Program
including requirements and application information can be found at:
