This year, the MIT Women's League celebrates its 100th anniversary! We have
many plans underway to celebrate this important milestone and we'd like to
call your attention to two of them.

Please take a look at the freshly designed 100th logo, which we're
introducing on our website today:web.mit.edu/womensleague/. With a click on
the top entry in the navigation bar, "MWL100 Anniversary," you'll find a
list of upcoming celebratory events. We invite you to explore the League's
timeline and to read a story or two about ongoing service projects.

*Then, mark your calendars for next week's MIT Women's League Centennial
Celebration kickoff event. On Wednesday, January 30, from noon to 2pm, we
welcome you to Lobby 10 for birthday cake and answers to questions about
the League's work.*

The mission of the Multicultural Conference (MC^2) is to bring students
together across race, ethnicity, gender, religion, nationality,
socioeconomic status, ability, sexual orientation, and other aspects of
cultural identity. The conference offers a provocative day of workshops,
speakers, community building, action, and reflection centered on issues of
culture, identity, and social justice at MIT and beyond.

At the conference, we will facilitate an honest, open, and interactive
dialogue about the cultural climate at MIT, learn from people's
experiences, and develop plans to cultivate a campus environment that
promotes equality, not simply tolerance. As MIT's mission statement clearly
promotes a diverse campus community, it is crucial for students to discuss
the role of diversity and inclusion in education and campus life.

*5. [WGS] Registration Day Film Screening - Half the Sky: Turning
Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide (Mon. Feb. 4, 7pm)*
*When:* Monday, February 4, 7pm
*Where:* 6-120

Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide was
filmed in 10 countries and follows Kristof, WuDunn, and celebrity activists
America Ferrera, Diane Lane, Eva Mendes, Meg Ryan, Gabrielle Union, and
Olivia Wilde on a journey to tell the stories of inspiring, courageous
individuals. Across the globe oppression is being confronted, and real
meaningful solutions are being fashioned through health care, education,
and economic empowerment for women and girls.

The linked problems of sex trafficking and forced prostitution,
gender-based violence, and maternal mortality — which needlessly claim one
woman every 90 seconds — present to us the single most vital opportunity of
our time: the opportunity to make a change. All over the world women are
seizing this opportunity.

*6. [WGS] Artist Talk - 4,000 Years for Choice (Wed. Feb. 6, 7:30pm)*
*When:* Wednesday, February 6, 7:30pm
*Where:* 6-120

Heather Ault, MFA, is an award-winning artist, researcher, and activist for
abortion rights and reproductive justice. As founder of 4000 Years for
Choice, she created a dynamic visual art series devoted to re-visioning the
historical and cultural narrative of abortion and contraception. Since the
project’s initial launch in 2009, Ms. Ault has presented her artwork and
research at art galleries, national conferences, university campuses, and
reproductive health clinics across the country.

Her work has been written about in the Huffington Post, New York Daily
News, Bust Magazine, and many other blogs. Ms. Ault is a board member of
the Abortion Conversation Project and also serves as Social
Media Coordinator for the Abortion Care Network. She holds a Bachelors of
Fine Arts in Graphic Design and Master of Fine Arts in New Media and is
based in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois.

Heather Ault’s comprehensive 1-hour artist talk reinvents our understanding
of birth control, abortion and all things reproductive.
