*When:* Thursday, February 14, 2-4pm
*Where:* 54-100
*Website:* http://tll.mit.edu/calendar/making-most-your-presentation

Strong oral presentation skills are a key to success for engineers,
scientists, and other professionals, yet many speakers are at a loss to
tackle the task. Systematic as they otherwise can be in their work, they go
at it intuitively, sometimes haphazardly, with much good will but seldom
good results. Based on Dr Doumont’s book *Trees, maps, and theorems* about
“effective communication for rational minds” this lecture proposes a
systematic way to prepare and deliver presentations. Among others, it
covers structure, slides, and delivery, as well as stage fright.

Harvard is a diverse community, comprised of students from around the
world. We represent a variety of languages, cultures, ethnicities, beliefs,
and values. Unfortunately, this level of diversity is not always
represented outside of the University or in interview and workplace
settings. In fact, as open and diverse as many institutions have become,
many still have yet to attract a diverse pool of talent or to develop a
more inclusive cultural framework. This can result in students and alumni
encountering people with beliefs and impressions that are outdated, untrue,
and sometimes offensive. The Harvard Foundation's Student Advisory
Committee (SAC) and the Office of Career Services (OCS) invite you to a
casual dinner and discussion with young professional alumni of color, BGLTQ
alumni, and folks from throughout the Harvard community to discuss how we
negotiate complex workplace challenges involving race, class, gender,
sexual orientation, and ethnicity. Please come and join in the
conversation. Please register by emailing ocsrecep at fas.harvard.edu.
