I'm happy to let you know that Emily Wong will be taking on the role of co-chair of the Family Subcommittee with me. Welcome!</div><div><br></div><div>We also had a surprise visit from Aalap, the GSC vice-president, who brought us wonderful news: The GSC has recently acquired more funds (roughly $70,000 surplus) than expected, and they are reaching out to the graduate community to get ideas and proposals on how to spend some of that money. He asked the Family Subcommittee to write a proposal on how graduate student families would use $2,000 - $20,000 of that money. </div><div><br></div><div>We are reaching out to all the families of the MIT community to help us with this proposal. Please fill in your ideas and suggestions in a Google form <a href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1FCKVMnx3a7c7j5W6PcNlCRXyn2_4JVpsNQC6wpr9PcY/viewform">here</a> by the end of next week i.e. by Sunday, February 17th. </div><div><br></div><div>Obviously childcare is one of the biggest issues for MIT families, so any ideas related to that would be very welcome. Any proposals that are focusing on sustainable and long-term solutions will have more weight than one time events. These are just general guidelines, and we will be happy to hear all of your ideas.
