<div dir="ltr">You knew it was coming. Here it is: the getting-toward-end-of-summer call for volunteers for the 19th annual <b>MIT Great Glass Pumpkin Patch</b>!<div><br><div>The sale this year will be in Kresge Oval the last Saturday in September, <b>Saturday, September 28th from 10AM to 3PM. </b>As always, the preview opening will be on Friday, September 27th from 5-8PM, and the rain date (!please, no!) Sunday, September 29th.</div><div>If you are a returning volunteer, we&#39;d love to have you back. If you know you&#39;re coming, please let me know what job preference you have and I will pre-assign you. If you don&#39;t care what job you get handed, great, let me know that too. If you have never volunteered but would like to and have questions about what sorts of jobs we need filled on Friday and Saturday, please don&#39;t hesitate to ask me.</div><div>Basically, we can use help Friday morning starting around 7:30AM transporting pumpkins from closets to Kresge Oval, then unwrapping them and putting them on tables. This always takes a few hours and we try to do it as fast as possible so the pricers have time to do their thing.</div><div>Then we need overnight help guarding the pumpkins. There&#39;s a Friday 8PM-1AM shift and the early Saturday 1AM-6AM shift. I will arrive at 6AM on Saturday, hand you a gold medal, and relieve you as we start getting the tent ready.</div><div>Starting at 6AM Saturday, we will get all the pumpkins out from under the tent and onto the grass (more likely, straw) of the Oval, and configure the tent for selling. We can use lots of early AM volunteers.</div><div>The big push is the sale itself. We need lots of volunteers to wrap, pack, sell pumpkins, etc. until at least 12:00 noon. Things typically begin to slow down a bit after noon.</div><div>The next and final push is cleanup, starting at 3. It&#39;s great when we have a lot of volunteers for this part, because we&#39;re all exhausted by then.</div><div>Remember: if you are a volunteer and plan to shop at the sale also, you MUST arrive by 8AM (so there is time to shop and also help) at the latest, and you MUST stay until at least 12:00 noon. </div><div><br></div><div>That&#39;s it in a nutshell. I&#39;ll send out more info in a couple more weeks. Please let me know if you will volunteer, as this is the time I will start filling out my volunteer roster.</div><div>And thanks ever so much for being a part of keeping the MIT Glass Lab running strong!</div><div><br></div><div>Peter<br clear="all"><div><br></div>-- <br><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_signature" data-smartmail="gmail_signature"><div dir="ltr"><div>Peter Houk<br>Artistic Director, MIT Glass Lab<br>Department of Materials Science and Engineering<br>Massachusetts Institute of Technology</div></div></div></div></div></div>
