This study focuses on the environmental impacts of large-scale long-term ethanol production from both starch and lignocellulosic-based biomass sources in the US. Monte Carlo methods are used to apply probability distributions, which represent system inputs and outputs to account for the variability in agricultural and ethanol processing data. This model is also used to address questions regarding petroleum and natural gas consumption during the life cycle of ethanol production, system greenhouse gas emissions, geographic variation with system expansion, and land quantity for both starch and lignocellulosic biomass sources.</SPAN></FONT></DIV></BODY></HTML>
