</b>Michael Meacher was Minister for the Environment in the Blair
Government 1997-2003. Before 1997 he was a Minister in the
Wilson-Callaghan Governments 1974-79 and then a member of the Shadow
Cabinet 1983-97. He has thus had 11 years of experience in
Government, and has been continually on the Front Bench in Parliament for
29 years. Throughout his parliamentary career he has held 7
portfolios either in Opposition or in Government. Since 2003
he has been very active on a number of domestic and international issues,
especially the background to the Iraq War and its consequences, GM crops
and climate change.<br><br>
