<div>Lecture Summary: MIT's Jule Charney chaired the first National
Academy of Sciences panel on the climate change threat in 1979.
Now, a quarter century has passed by and the United States has yet to
face up to this most serious of all environmental challenges, despite
the fact that most of the research that has led the rest of the
advanced nations to act has been done here. How could this
happen? And now that it has, and now that we have elected
leaders in the Presidency and the Congress who prefer to ignore the
threat, what are we to do?<br>
