arrives on campus for the start of the program. During the
month, in addition to taking courses in Organizational Processes and
the start of System Architecture, they participate in 2 major
"Design Challenges." These "challenges" are very demanding
and designed to:</font></div>
<div><font color="#000000"> *Involve participants in an
exciting, complex system design/product development
experience</font></div>
<div><font color="#000000"> *Introduce participants to the

In January 2004, DC-II addressed a major socio-technical issue:
Poverty in Africa.<br>
<br>
The teams were given a little more than 2 weeks to work on this
issue. They made presentations to their classmates, faculty and
staff, and a separate executive presentation to Mr. Peter Bell,
President of CARE USA, one of the major NGO's addressing poverty and
hunger in the world.</font><br>
<font color="#000000"></font></div>
<div><font color="#000000">This seminar will provide an overview of
the purpose and motivation for this challenge, as well as the concepts
developed by the 6 teams, and lessons learned in tackling challenges
such as this given the constraints of the program.<br>
