<div><font color="#000000">Abstract<br>
Nanotechnology represents a "small" world, while energy
systems are big. How nanotechnology may impact energy
conversion? In this talk, I will discuss the potential of
nanotechnology in enabling efficient, direct, thermal to electric
energy conversion systems. The efficiency of these systems is
often limited by materials properties. Through the use of
nanostructures to engineer the transport of electrons, phonons, and
photons, new nanostructured-materials are being developed that hold
the promise to significantly change the landscape of energy
conversion.</font><br>
