</b>We are looking for a summer intern to work at Nokia Research
Center<br>
Cambridge (in collaboration with MIT researchers) on a software<br>
component composition project.<br><br>
Combination of web services and other software components makes it<br>
possible to build rich new applications that integrate these<br>
components, going far beyond the original intent of any one
component<br>
provider. Although our focus is mobile devices, these
applications<br>
could run on a desktop computer or other platforms. The applications<br>
can be created by skilled programmers, or composed by end users.<br><br>
Today, software component integration is difficult. It is hard
to<br>
discover components that are compatible with one another, and if<br>
incompatibilities exist, it is hard to know how to transform the
data<br>
to make it compatible. Our goal is to simplify such programming,
by<br>
automatically identifying how software components can be combined.<br>
Different aspects of the project can focus on different scenarios<br>
(computers vs. cell phones, programmers vs. end users,
software<br>
libraries vs. web services).<br><br>
Programming experience in C++, Java or Python is required. If<br>

Job Description<br>
The intern will assist in the development of sensors made by Boston<br>
MicroSystems, which are based on microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)

used in many applications, including the detection of chem/bio warfare

and explosive vapors. Opportunities are presented to impact the success
of a<br>
rapidly growing startup company by solving challenging problems in<br>
semiconductor device design, manufacture, and application. The intern
will work<br>
in a laboratory setting and in clean-environments during device
handling.<br>
Devices will be characterized using bench-top instrumentation,
custom<br>
electronics, and automation software. Physical models will be developed
and<br>
compared to experimental results. Measured data will be organized in<br>
spreadsheets, assembled into reports, and communicated in presentation to
other<br>
engineering staff. The intern will support the measurement and
automation<br>
infrastructure, using and modifying electronic circuitry and software
written<br>
