<div>As someone who has worked for many years as a full-time freelancer in the past, knows many other freelancers and participates in email lists and other forums for freelancers, I know that in general freelancers hate to work for an hourly rate, and many
just won’t consider such an assignment.</div>

<div>It’s also generally not a benefit for you as the client, either, because that system tends to reward inexperience and penalize skill and knowledge. A seasoned freelance science writer may be able to do a better job in less time, but would then get less
money.</div>

</div>
<div>Virtually everybody that I know of in the freelance world, clients and writers, pays by the word — or, less often, a flat rate for a project. I would suggest those are better ways to do it.</div>
