MANAGER, NEWS OFFICE, Public Relations Services, to coordinate and
track the assignment, development, reporting, writing, photography,
publishing, and promoting of numerous MIT stories under various
deadlines. Will execute overall editorial plan; identify stories and
work with others in developing communication plans on strategic themes
important to the Institute; encourage enterprise reporting; guide
writers' assignments; edit news articles, press releases, and other
material and determine scheduling and presentation on web site, in
MIT's official campus newspaper, and distribution to media, including
selecting photographs and other visuals; generate story ideas with
director and other staff and conceptualize and direct print and
web-page designs, working closely with web editor, photojournalist,
etc.; oversee and handle newspaper layout, distribution, and contact
with printer and outside services; write stories, regular news
columns, and features; supervise reporting and production staff;
maintain central planning calendar and assignment system; receive and
respond to news submissions and requests for information and services;
and monitor news developments and maintain internal and external
contacts.</font></div>

color="#000000">REQUIREMENTS: a bachelor's degree and at least ten
years' related experience; proven writing ability; strong
communication skills; excellent editing skills; and competence in
scheduling, coordinating, and balancing multiple hands-on tasks and
effectively directing activities of others. Print journalism
experience preferred. Page layout and web publishing skills and strong
sense of print and electronic design highly desirable. Knowledge of
Macintosh computers, Microsoft Word, InDesign, Photoshop, and
FileMaker desirable. Must be able to work with and facilitate highly
collaborative work environment. Advanced degree and experience in
academic environment and/or MIT also desirable. Occasional evening
