face="Times New Roman">Steven Wade Neiterman was
an ambassador for the Information Systems department whose dedication to
collaboration, knowledge sharing and teamwork permeated all aspects of his
life. For Steve, the shared success of the team was more important than
individual accolades, and he used his abilities to educate, influence, and
solve problems to ensure its success. Steve was a dedicated 14-year
employee of the Institute when he died unexpectedly in 1998. To honor his
memory and the values he exemplified, the Neiterman family has generously
provided MIT with a gift to recognize one or two individuals who best
demonstrate Steve’s spirit and zeal for life.
This year, we honor Don Nelson of the Plasma Science and Fusion Center and Katie Livingston-Vale of Information Services & Technology as the 2004 Steven
Wade Neiterman Award winners. Katie and Don were honored for the special
qualities they share with Wade. Their nominations cite dedication to teamwork
and to the mission of the Institute, as well as their calm and considerate
approach to challenging situations. The “Wade Awards” of a framed
citation and $2000 were presented to Katie and Don by Oliver Thomas, last
year's award recipient, at the Information Services and Technology Spring Event
for the IT community. Our sincerest congratulations to Katie and Don as
this year's award winners, and thanks for all their contributions not only this
year, but throughout their dedicated tenure at the Institute.

The Award Committee and I would also like to thank the many people in the
community who submitted nominations for this year's Steven Wade Neiterman
Award. The number and quality of award nominations shows the importance
that the community places on the dedicated service of their IT providers.
