the big issue is though is that cidrz access from zambia to a server in the US for example will probably piss off every minister in the MOH in zambia. <br><br>also, the latency running an app across the pond is rather atrocious. we run our source control off of visual studio team foundation and the latency for simple tasks is horrible since we're going to space and back.<br>

wants to contribute photos and some doctors stateside that will need to access
via the web some images for their diagnoses as well.<br>

David, to answer your question of MMS vs. Laptop, the answer is both :)<br>

to clarify also on the remote nurse originally sending the images from the field
to central cidrz...we were looking into different transport options. For
security sake since we will be transporting patient information, we will
probably do some variation of an HTTP POST command over SSL. But yeah,
the short answer for the initial image transfer, it will be via GPRS, not
encapsulated in an MMS. <br>

We are envisioning MMS being part of an alerting system, spawned/originated
from the CIDRZ server after the data has been received from the field.
Doctors will eventually need to login via laptop to a web interface to provide
additional documentation. But the MMS aspect would be very useful for a
realtime alerting method for docs in country.<br>

better sense of what costs to consider when scaling out a nationwide service
over CelTel's network.</span></font></p>

The project particulars are as such:<br>

In a clinic a nurse will take a picture of a patient for diagnosis and
evaluation. The image and corresponding data will be sent via GPRS to a
central server in CIDRZ's offices. The CIDRZ office server will then MMS
the image to a doctor for his/her review.<br>
<br>
A few assumptions we will be making in a pilot implementation. <br>
<br>
First, we will assume that the software we develop will streamline the
preparation of the data package. <br>
Next, we will assume that the nurse is in a place with reasonable coverage such
that GPRS (or even better, EDGE) is available to make the transmission.<br>
<br>
Of concern though is the actual route that the data will take from the phone
out in say, Choma, back to CIDRZ in Lusaka. </span></font></p>

secure pipe.</span></font> </p>

server has an internet connection (and static IP address) assigned by iConnect,
how will GPRS data route through the internet, will it it hit out via satellite
and back in?</span></font></p>
