The School of Science is now soliciting nominations for the 2027 Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program. The scholarship was established by the U.S. Congress in 1986 to pay tribute to Senator Barry M. Goldwater and to foster and
 encourage excellence in science, mathematics, and engineering.  MIT’s Schools of Engineering and Science may nominate up to two students each who are sophomores or juniors during the 2026-27 academic year.  To qualify, students must be a US citizen or Permanent
 resident, both exhibit outstanding potential and intend to pursue careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or those engineering disciplines that contribute significantly to the technological advances of the United States. </div>

Sophomore scholarship recipients will be eligible for two years of scholarship support and junior scholarship recipients will be eligible for one year of scholarship support.  The award covers eligible expenses up to a maximum of $7,500 per academic year.</div>
