<span style="color:black;background:white">Dr. Threlkeld, Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford University, will review the literature on functional neuroimaging techniques to better understand disorders of consciousness due to severe traumatic brain injury
(TBI). Patients with severe TBI experience an acute disorder of consciousness (coma, vegetative state, minimally conscious state), and functional neuroimaging tools may be useful to more accurately diagnose and prognosticate in disorders of consciousness in
these individuals. Furthermore, advanced functional MRI techniques have revealed that a significant number of patients with severe TBI may actually be conscious but unable to express that consciousness at the bedside.</span><br>
