Explores how to debate the role engineering plays in society. Presents basic principles of argumentation and persuasive communication to engage persuasive texts about science and engineering. Subjects include the connection between the engineering project and
society in general, as well as consideration of specific examples of engineering challenges in wider society, such as climate change, social media, bioengineering, AI, and more. Pre-approved for HASS-H credit.
Taught by Edward Schiappa (John E. Burchard Professor of Humanities) and Bernhardt Trout (Raymond F. Professor of Chemical Engineering). Email Schiappa@mit.edu for the syllabus-in-progress.
